007 First Light praised as James Bond's best recent game
IO Interactive’s 007 First Light is being praised as the best James Bond game in years, with critics highlighting its cinematic storytelling and faithful Bond atmosphere. Review coverage singles out its tight stealth systems, refined gunplay, and mission design that plays like a compact, limited spy series, plus chapter-based structure and collectible objectives. That combination revives triple-A spy action for games and sets a higher bar for how future Bond and espionage titles balance movie-style pacing with player agency.
i'm enjoying 007 first light for the most part but it's still very strange they decided to make a james bond game where the worst part is the fighting system
invincible boss battle you have to lure into traps so you can electrocute him with environmental effects: absolutely horrible. boring and conceptually goofy
ioi’s strength is the “whipping shit at a guy’s head” mechanic
everyone wants a 007 made by the hitman guys until its time to play it
It's an homage to the early Bond movies
is there not a badly tacked-on driving segment which is obviously just product placement for aston martin or something
I just started and I keep thinking about nothing but your skeet about the narrow rock passsges lol
My favourite part is when you're trying to dodge and parry 4 people but then you also accidentally activate a keycard reader on the periphery of the fight, leading to you getting your head kicked in.
No Ms. Lauren I expect you to Arkham combat (but bad and wrong in ways both conceptual and moral)
If my knowledge of the movies is anything to go by, that must leave the rest of the game to being the hitting on women simulator
I heard that aspect of it is a considerable improvement from the Hitman games so it might be a case of where they started
Yes, but also how he is constantly talking through his earpiece in earshot of others, and it is *sometimes*, if rarely, acknowledged. Which is worse than never because now every other situation is even weirder.
007 First Light is my literal dream video game. It feels like the sequel to Splinter Cell Conviction that I always wanted. If you know me, you know that is the highest praise I could give any video game.
Brother I can’t stop playing it, the combat is just so fun. You actually feel like Jimmy B in this game. Came for the impressively well-written story/dialogue, stayed for the addicting hand-to-hand and CQC combat. The last time I felt this level of “smooth operator” was Leon sections of RE9
It feels like the final form of what they were going for with Conviction/Blacklist
NEW VIDEO! Reviewed that there new James Bond game. Unfortunately, for a whole bunch of reasons, it really didn't resonate with me like it seemed to with so many others. Hope you enjoy this review of 007 First Light!
This is one of those ones where, after a quick glance, I'm going to spare myself any further look at the comments. It's ok that some people aren't as into a game as you! It's fine! Critical variety is a good thing actually!
I think I understand why someone who came at it from the angle of a Hitman game wouldn't like the game, but personally if it was too much closer to Hitman I would like it less. I've never been one to want to push outside the boundaries of intention, though. I don't want to dent the Aston Martin.
honestly we should just let 007: First Light be "the" James Bond for this decade. no need to make a movie. a movie would not be as good as this. I'm not sure any bond movie is better than this video game tbqh
they really did an arkham asylum for bond. the absolute madmen. they did a video game interpretation of the character that stands on its own and blows like half the movie versions out of the water.
i've been a bondhead since childhood and first light has been living rent free in my head for days. i haven't even gotten my hands on it yet, i'm just going off of videos. i know i said years ago that the hitman people were the perfect studio to work on this IP, but still, like, dang
