Blue Origin investigates New Glenn explosion that destroyed vehicle and damaged Launch Complex 36

techMay 30, 2026422,634

Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket exploded during a static-fire test at Cape Canaveral, destroying the vehicle and heavily damaging Launch Complex 36. No injuries were reported and Amazon's Project Kuiper satellites at the site were not harmed, but Blue Origin said the accident will delay planned Kuiper launches. The blast demolished key pad infrastructure Blue Origin had developed at LC-36, forcing extensive repairs and tightening timelines for New Glenn's return to flight and heavy-lift competition.

While Blue Origin investigates the root cause behind last night’s spectacular explosion of its New Glenn rocket, it’s already clear that this will be a major setback for NASA’s Moon base plans and Amazon’s fledgling Leo space internet constellation.

Space travel should be by NASA only. Not oligarchs.

poormansumbrella.bsky.social59

Maybe, just thinking out loud here, we give all this money to NASA and serious scientists and stop giving money to billionaires and their vanity projects. What caused this explosion? Billionaires and their arrogance and likely a whole host of butt-munching sycophants.

kMikaZu 🔻🇪🇺🇨🇦🇵🇸🇺🇦☮️35

The sheer madness of all this is staggering. Those missions mainly support oligarchs like Bezos and Musk. To compensate their small egos. Imagine all the good things that could be done on this planet. Instead, a stupid race to the moon and space. All that money now literally gone up in smoke…

Volf26

Remember before we privatized space travel and we made it to the moon on a calculator and some lady who wrote a metric ton of code on paper?

healinghands65.bsky.social24

NASA should be given back to NASA and get rid of that fuck stick Musk altogether

GayGuy12

NASA should not be working with private entities. The American people have paid for NASA for decades. Any knowledge that NASA has belongs to the American people NASA should not be given away for free that information to private entities We need to start charging Blue Origin and SpaceX fees.

Grumpy Grandpa7

Oh jeez whats Prime gonna cost us now?

MTfromCC7

That picture is Bezos in a nutshell. He lost his wife, he lost his souls and it’s only a matter of time before he explodes completely.

Frosted Poptart7

Just think of all the good that could have been done if that dick rocket money had been spent on making things better for this planet. 🔥🚀🔥

Ms B Moran7

NASA needs to quit courting billionaire dilettantes and get back to the business of being a serious space agency.

PublicWrx6

Imagine having your own personal space rocket blow up and it doesn't affect your financial situation in any way whatsoever.

Lennox5

Ya know with all the money in tax breaks we give elon and jeff to do nasa shit we could have actually funded and improved nasa....actually it would probably take less money

Scarheart Thrymson5

I'm no aerospace engineer, but my best guess is that it was caused by allowing a company that forces its employees to piss in bottles and leaves them dead on warehouse floors for hours to develop its own space program.

Donna Belgum-Shroyer5

Karma is paying Bozo a visit and I’m all for it! The fk’n right wing trumptard Nazi mfkr❤️❤️❤️

ThatBitch5

I love NASA but Bezos can suck it

Hanni5

But by all means let's allow some rich boy morons to keep polluting the planet. They're not competent to get to Mars, let alone build a liveable space there.

Badger State Breakdown4

FFS!!! 🤦🏽‍♀️Are the trying to be like SpaceX, with all these rockets exploding? I'm sure the folks who live nearby, are loving all the debris & chemicals, now in their backyard.

Resistance Daily Mission3

I am all out of Fucks to give. Wait, I found one more...F Bezos.

Kevin J. Allen3

Your dishwasher detergent and dog treats are going to be a little late

Loops3

So bottom line… between Musk and Bezos, NASA is screwed? Can we get our money back?

Sean says stuff and things3

Rich people need to stop fucking up the earth

John Brownell3

I think the fiery thingy was too close to the fuel thingy but that's just a guess

Sylvester Marcus2

Maybe they could just use the force of the explosion to propel the satellites into space? C’mon people this isn’t rocket science.

karicort.bsky.social2

It’s a setback for EARTH! They keep ruining the friggen planet with their pet projects.

Sir_LANs-a-lot2

I'd feel the tiniest bit sorry for him, but since Amazon want £18 for a delivery fee for a bare internal BlurRay drive, sod him.

HazeDZ2

Oh look, millions of OUR DOLLARS just burning away…

Jeroen Werner2

Well Bezos is known for selling books online line … not building rockets. There’s your root cause

whoneedstoknow2

The day after a large "moonbase project" contract was awarded to them? You think NASA would have checked the rocket wouldn't blow up first

Joysea Crew2

And yet his Amazon AMZN stock went UP today… unlike his rocket, I suppose. 🤷🏻‍♀️

barlap.bsky.social2

Who would have suspected something would cause a delay in NASA getting off their asses and building MOONBASE SALVIA.

Joey P2

Owned, hopefully Bezos itself is on the next one

sparta47.bsky.social2

We don’t need a base on the moon! We need universal healthcare! Free college education! More school teachers to teach civics and American history!!

cheyenne50.bsky.social2

More incompetence from the private sector...how many people could have been housed, fed, and/or clothed with the money that blew up there?

Sidveeman132

Fix earth first. Fuck space

sipkins.bsky.social2

Holy shit, I hope none of the packages I've been waiting for were aboard!

Rick Miskowski 🏜️2

It must of made a hot mess out of the launch pad.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿2

Is it wrong that it warmed my heart seeing this, shame his obscene boat wasn't parked near by as well

k.gordon2

The key players holding back America’s vision for the moon are private companies (SpaceX and Blue Origin). The SLS had a minor setback, but didn’t blow up. Weren’t private companies supposed to be more efficient?

Eric Berger
@sciguyspace.bsky.social

This is remarkably bad for Blue Origin, and possibly even worse for NASA. arstechnica.com/space/2026/0...

arytomd2.bsky.social51

If nasa got more funding nasa alone would've gotten people to the moon sooner. But no give it to billionaire or the bloated military instead not even a form of universal Healthcare.

EuphoricFuzion🕯️25

Whaaaaaat?!?!? Dudes who buys a bookstore websites and ends up financially raping the world, decides he should play space man and it DOESN'T WORK OUT?! ...wow. Shocking. Truly.

eMando20

The Starship is remarkably behind and now New Glen will be. This is the problem when you want to save a handful of dollars: They failed.

Greg Probst17

Catastrophic explosions normalized: Bezos and Musk clearly lack the competency required to build spacecraft. It IS rocket science.

Goth Rat Summer17

"It’s too early to know the root cause but we’re already working to find it,” Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos said on X. “Very rough day, but we’ll rebuild whatever needs rebuilding and get back to flying. It’s worth it.” WHY DON'T YOU REBUILD AMERICA, JEFF

Jeffery McComb11

I feel for the folks who gave everything they had to prepare that vehicle watching it disintegrate before their eyes. Brutal.

Per Tronaas7

China just sent 3 men into space, no drama

anty41.bsky.social7

Keep on privatising everything and that is the result you get

jansky2300.bsky.social4

Both Bezos and Musk having big problems this week. Maybe US space exploration shouldn’t be with for profit billionaire’s companies.

hello4

wow these replies are a dumpster fire

PoloPrincess MBA3

This is an easy fix. Put Jeff Bezos on the next rocket. Either the company does a better job and the launch is successful or Jeff Bezos goes up in flames. Win win.

Saiph 🇬🇧3

When you waste your time building a glorified elevator to lift your elitist celebrity friends 50 miles up, then 50 miles down, and achieving precisely NOTHING for the human race, eventually your stupidity, shallowness and lack of foresight will come back to bite you in the rear.

SD2

Not the fault of NASA that idiot Republicans demand private enterprise to do what the government should do and always at a much higher cost with lower quality. What a shitshow.

Starman-X2

My heart weeps for Jeff (not). Too much time having his lips surgically attached to Trump's fat ass to pay attention to his little pet project. What goes around comes around and some need that wake up call. I am optimistic his hopes for big NASA contracts are now toast (like his rockets).

Biologist2

This waste of fossil fuels needs to end.

Melissa Walker2

I’m so sick of Bezos and Musk blowing shit up all of the time. Whatever happened to just funding NASA?

Rob Bleattler2

Oh no, did a billionaire’s space penis toy explode? Drat.

zoemom.bsky.social2

Maybe NASA should build their own rockets.

Concerned Citizen2

But the private sector can do it fster and better. This is what they have done to healthcare.
