Gareth Edwards backs AI filmmaking, calls it 'like a billionaire on acid'
Gareth Edwards, director of Rogue One and Jurassic World Reborn, said he welcomes generative AI filmmaking and called it "like a billionaire on acid." He said diffusion models "will do anything you ask" and that he has been experimenting with them to build a hybrid AI that could function as a second-unit director. Edwards said AI will speed up visual effects and creative iteration, reshaping how studios allocate budgets and crews.
“I view it like having a second-unit director who is a billionaire on acid.” Why the fuck would you want that?? www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie...
If I’m making a movie and Elon Musk is my second unit director I’m murdering someone.
AI will ensure the McDonald's method. Don't worry, every movie will be pleasing and you won't have to think. Just sit down and let it wash over you while you feel numb. It's not acid, it's novocaine.
Why is this individual making movies when he obviously hates cinema?
Tbf, almost every movie he’s made has a script that feels AI generated so he probably can’t tell the difference
I've not enjoyed any film that he directed, and I expect he's just done well because most of them are part of a bigger franchise with existing fan base...
Let’s not forget that other prominent artists with a wealth of money, resources and connections like Hideo Kojima, Nicholas Winding Refn, George Miller, and Gareth Edwards have also jumped on the ai train
Man, that's such a disappointment. I'm tired of AI being pushed into the Art/Entertainment industry so much. It's so fucking offensive to artists who continue to rely on their own skills, instead of pushing it off to a robot that steals artwork everywhere on the Internet.
Kojima is the one that hurts the most for me, but I'm more than glad to just... ignore anything else he puts out because of that.
This I won't be so forgiving about however. Fuck you, Gareth Edwards. I fucking loved your take on Godzilla, man. Even Rogue One. And you pull this Pro AI bullshit. Fuck you.
He's now unfortunately becoming washed-up, especially after he directed one of the greatest Star Wars film, Rogue One with some top-notch visual effects.
Well part of Rogue One is Tony Gilroy doing re-shoots, not known how much Edwards' vision was left. I actually found Edwards' Jurassic World: Rebirth to be one of the better World sequels oddly.
