newsMay 27, 2026102

The National Weather Service issued radar-indicated tornado warnings for Fayette, Gonzales and Lavaca counties in Texas and for Elliott County in Kentucky overnight. In Texas, NWS warned that at 11:16 PM CDT a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Gonzales moving east at 35 mph, with warnings in effect until 12:00 AM CDT. In Kentucky, the NWS in Jackson said at 11:44 PM EDT a severe thunderstorm was over northwestern Elliott County and a tornado warning remained until midnight EDT. Several of those warnings were later canceled, but officials urged residents to take shelter while storms were active because late-night tornado threats raise danger and reduce warning lead time.
