ICE agents pepper-sprayed Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ) and demonstrators outside Delaney Hall, a 1,000-bed detention center in Newark, on May 26, 2026. Nearly 300 detainees sent a second letter pleading with senators, members of Congress, foundations, and immigrant-support organizations, writing S.O.S. and describing worm-infested food, inadequate medical care including for pregnancies, and denied access for officials such as Governor Mikie Sherrill. The facility operates under a 15-year, $1 billion contract with the GEO Group signed in February 2025, raising urgent questions about oversight and taxpayer-funded accountability as elected officials probe conditions.

I was at Delaney Hall yesterday. Everything the detainees wrote in their S.O.S. letter is 100% correct. DHS is lying to keep their abuses from being exposed. And to make things worse, they pepper sprayed @kim.senate.gov and are lying about it to cover their tracks.
