Peter Cushing remembered on his birthday
Peter Cushing would have turned 113 on May 26, remembered for leading Hammer horror films such as Frankenstein Created Woman and for playing Grand Moff Tarkin in 1977's Star Wars. French lobby cards and other memorabilia underline his Hammer-era image, and profiles highlight that Cushing painted miniature soldiers and enjoyed tabletop wargames. Cushing's precise, theatrical performances helped define Hammer's Gothic look and established a model for commanding cinematic villains across horror and science fiction, which keeps his work collected and studied today.
Remembering three Horror film Legends: Peter Cushing 26th May 1913 Christopher Lee 27th May 1922 Vincent Price 27th May 1911
Come on. List them left to right.
Time to watch this classic:
It should be noted that these men were also excellent actors that managed to bring gravitas to some rather mediocre films.
Photo - Cushing, Price, Lee. 🤷♀️
Grand Moff, Unknown ISB Admin, Darth Tyranus
I had no idea their birthdays were so close.
Before his acting career, Christopher Lee served in the Royal Air Force (RAF) as an intelligence officer, attached to the No. 260 Squadron RAF during the Second World War as a liaison officer for the Special Operations Executive (SOE).
The young kids probably think that the order you listed them is the same order as the photo. It is not. Vincint Price is in the middle of the photo, not the end...
They still scare me! Shalom
Classic scary movies I loved Vincent Price in the Edgar Allen Poe movies!
I still watch their movies every chance I get. Classics all.
Maybe Peter Cushing 26th May 1913 Vincent Price 27th May 1911 Christopher Lee 27th May 1922 ?
Love these guys! Find their movies and watch.
Is it just me or do these three men appear to look like brothers? Fascinating
As a kid I watched them every Saturday night in the late 60's.
Legends. I'm currently reading a biography of Vincent Price written by his daughter.
FWIW, Vincent Price was American.
All deserved much higher caliber films in their entire careers, much better actors than Olivier, Burton, and Welles. At least Cushing and Lee got acknowledged with roles that fit their skills. Price stood out despite seemingly being stuck in B-movie land.
The Mount Rushmore of horror.
The thing about Cushing and Lee (at least) is that successive generations who discover Dr. Who and STAR WARS, or the LORD OF THE RINGS films might also wonder about these guys and check them out on the IMDb. What wonders await! 😆 Price has his Thriller voiceover, enough to endear him to newer fans.
Peter Cushing lives in Whitstable, I have seen him on his bicycle, I have seen him buying vegetables....
My sister & I were really into Vincent Price movies. That hiked up eyebrow & horror movie laugh though...
I feel like we're looking at Asimov's Dawn, Day and Dusk in a parallel universe. (I know--their ages are too close together, but still...)
The trio of horror !
All three are legends as is John Carradine, who was the oldest of the group, 1906. We lived in the same neighborhood for a few years.
Christopher Lee was in a heavy metal band. Legend says that during the filming of LOTR he told Peter Jackson what the sound of someone being stabbed in the back was like.
Crazy levels of talent in one photo like wow
They don't make them like this anymore.
They all look like brothers!
For a minute I thought those were the monsters on the SCOTUS6…but nope, these men only played monsters in films
They look alike in this picture!
Happy heavenly birthday to the man behind Hammer’s Van Helsing, Holmes, and of course, the Baron. Who could imagine a world without the irrefutable gentleman of horror that is Mr Peter Cushing? We salute you, sir! 🖤
Cushing. One of the best pros in the business. The script could be total garbage and yet he'd still give it everything.
Plus tomorrow, 27th, Vincent Price and Christopher Lee share a birthday
Well, today is the original Star Wars Day when the first movie was released.
Birthday Cake?!? It's our moment of triumph!
Who else could have made Governor Tarkin so evil?
"Governor Tarkin, I should have expected to find you holding Vader's leash. I recognized your foul stench when I was brought on board."
Of all the Peter Cushing Frankenstein movies, "Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed" strikes me as the best of the bunch.
Happy Birthday to one of the greatest miniature wargamers in modern history!
That is the first photo I have ever seen where he is smiling!
I need that cardigan! Cushing was always extremely dapper.
To mark both International Dracula Day and Peter Cushings birthday it must be Hammer. It might stray from Stoker but when it's this good who cares. 1958. #horrorcommunity #horrorfamily #horrormovie #horrorfilm #horrorfan #hammerhorror #petercushing #filmsky #horrorsky #mutantfam #horrorfam #dracula
Moving away from the source novel was a great idea. (I know it's a classic piece of literature, but it's dull.) This is brisk and exciting, and how lucky were we to have Messrs Cushing & Lee at that time? The horror equivalent of Lennon & McCartney just a few years later. Sometimes the stars combine
I think the problem is more that stoker strays from the hammer story........
I love these old posters 🥰
There's a great bit, (forget where), where you can see the creases in the backdrop, that they used.
I saw this rather strange movie starring Peter Cushing in 1962.
