Stephen Colbert resurfaces on Monroe public-access show with surprise guests

comedyMay 25, 20265315,341

On May 22, 2026 Stephen Colbert appeared on Monroe public-access show Only In Monroe, performing helium-voice bits and staged sandwich gags while hosting surprise guests Eminem, Jeff Daniels, Jack White, and Steve Buscemi. The episode was Colbert's first on-air appearance after his final Late Show episode, and Colbert posted the full recording to his own channel. Performances ranged from Jack White's deadpan comedy to a musical cameo from Eminem, with Daniels and Buscemi joining film-related segments. The low-budget, local-TV setting paired with high-profile cameos highlights Colbert experimenting with informal, boundary-pushing projects outside traditional late-night television formats, making the episode a notable shift in his post-network approach.

A day after The Late Show ended, Colbert hosted an episode of public access program Only In Monroe, reviving his 11-year-old gag. How bad is CBS/Paramount taking it? They issued copyright complaints for a show they don't own. 🤣 CBS would hate it if you watch here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DlF...

Paramount is apparently trying to suppress copies of "Only in Monroe" from appearing on other social platforms by filing frivolous copyright notices, even though the show was produced by a public access TV channel and doesn't use their intellectual property...

Article answers some questions but raises more! Why would Colbert do it financed/produced by CBS? My guess: Maybe he needed to pretape while still under contract. Otherwise not great look. I worked at CBS/Paramount 7 years. Was point person to post Colbert's web content first half of his run...

Wrecked217

Only in Monroe must be doing NUMBERS whilst CBS…uh, does whatever it’s doing nobody even knows or cares lmao. Got ‘em.

Parker Molloy123

I think you're confused. The video is still up on Colbert's YouTube channel. The one that got taken down was someone reposting it as their own content on YouTube (which is what's supposed to happen).

ben67

Are you sure that is what’s happening here? As the video is still up youtu.be/jJTXB5uT_C4 And shared on the cbs owned Late Show channel, it seems like it only being protected from duplication uploads, not actually blocked.

Jay Whozblue61

I watched it. Funny as hell. Colbert is the hottest comic in the World. He easily gets a new job. Maybe abroad where Orangie can't stop him.

Liberty View40

Hilarious! By the way... "Economic Decision??" Colbert shows you can do a talk show on television for practically nothing. If it was a question of production budget, CBS could have simply reduced that to whatever they were comfortable with. No, they WANTED to cancel Colbert for politics, not $$$.

peggyrose.bsky.social35

CBS doesn’t want us to just hate them; they want us TO FUCKING DESPISE THEM.

Wait, what?!30

"I've never done that with a girl, or a person". 🤣🤣🤣🤣

pattycake24

i've watched it twice! It's hysterical! I don't understand how CBS or Paramount has any say in what he does now.

Jenn Of Ark23

Please tell me Monroe Community Media can sue them for fraudulent complaints/falsely claiming ownership of MCM's IP.

Jan🇵🇦🇨🇦🇺🇲(Don't add me to Packs!)21

I watched it yesterday. It's really fun, enjoyable, old-fashioned TV.

kindnesswins.bsky.social19

I did watch it--it was fucking hysterical!🤣🤣

romesco-nuts.bsky.social17

It was a great show. I think I saw Bigfoot at the end.

Bill17

It was hilarious. I smiled for hours after watching it.

pattycake16

and then they could barely be understood because of all the peanut butter in their mouths. And then what was the reference to the Iran war? omg and poor Genevieve!

Undersecretary Of The Dept Of Please-God-Not-These-Clowns-Again.14

That’s it. I’m gonna watch it again.

📎Sprout10

Pathetic, greedy little assholes, aren’t they?

Trevor M.9

CBS thinks they literally own Colbert, like as a human being, Im fairly certain.

fraidicat2.bsky.social9

I so enjoyed watching this episode! Cannot wait to see what he does next.

🌱Green Grandma 🐝9

It was hilarious. Would love to see so much more.

mylittlecorner.bsky.social8

The “Scardy-cats” that preemptively bent the knee to the mango Mussolini are now whining because trump STILL takes a dump on CBS every chance he gets.. so NOW… THEY are the victims? Boo fuQing hooooooooo!

Chele Lea8

@cbsnews.com.web.brid.gy thinks they have a copyright on Colbert😂😂😂 they never fail to fail.

Simply Susan 💙6

Send Genevieve to deal with CBS. She won't take their nonsense. "No spitting, please. On the floor, no."

Paul Beaudry6

The Steve Buscemi cameo for Buscemi's pizza was the best. Mostly because Buscemi's pizza is too

pattycake6

Jack was all I'll bite the end of those hotdogs and drink that shot but I'm too full from the hotdogs to take a bite of that potato chip pita sandwich. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

blinkndash.bsky.social6

CBS, owned by Paramount and therefore the Ellisons, thinks it owns Colbert because they still believe in slavery as seen here.

Copernicus Sees5

CBS: "But, but.... He's just supposed to go away, not make us look like the shortsighted idiots we are!"

🕊GIVE PEACE A CHANCE🕊5

Watching it again! I just can't help myself!! Writers or no writers— Stephen's unique talent stands out & speaks for itself!!

Aschwanden4

Are you kidding me? Watched it yesterday and it got funnier as it went on. CBS is a disaster.

Stephen Monteith, World's Greatest Secret Author4

I feel like Only In Monroe should sue CBS/Paramount for trying to claim ownership of the clips.

scott-sargent.bsky.social4

I watched it. Literally had me laughing out loud. I wish he would do this weekly. It should have included a PSA to donate to Public TV in Monroe, Michigan or US in general.

Rick Schmitz4

It seems to me that if CBS was interested in putting the whole Colbert thing behind them they would just ignore what Colbert is up to and be the “we can take a joke” good guys. Being a bully doesn’t help CBS in its current situation and may just be more off-putting for the general public.

Talon Rose4

Take note of the punitive attempts and power of a corporation that maliciously discharged the one person worth watching its shit services for. This is what a relatively inept, impotent company does. Now imagine one that deals in surveillance, guns....

Cinders4

Saw it and had a good laugh! Go Colbert!

Areyousure3

It would be cool if Colbert finds the time to do a whole lot of public access programs, and announces the dates and times. Might give these stations a boost and expand their viewership and support.

🍁 Christine 🍁3

The one from 2015 is hilarious as is the newest one. CBS and Paramount have no power over what he does anymore - they don't like that he's still being seen and heard. And it isn't going to stop. I suspect he may become a regular on the Daily Show again.

Heretic Artist ❌👑3

What a petty little bitch Ellison is. I’m so sick of billionaires behaving like victims.

Bymyown Pawz3

Good thing I got to watch this before they yanked it.

JAQQQLN 🐇🏳️‍⚧️🇵🇸 🔞3

In an ideal world this would lead to Youtube/Google finally getting in trouble for their complete lack of oversight on malicious copyright claims.

meh333.bsky.social3

Never knew Jack White was so funny.

Keith Stewart3

Stephen Colbert has higher ratings on public access cable television than Donald Trump has in the White House

Stampedehero3

Mr. Colbert should start a You tube channel. After all, the truth is found in platforms of You tube. I never subscribe to mainline news and found real news here.

Paul in the UK2

Boycott everything CBS has a hand in.

Fermin's Swedish Paradox2

I actually enjoyed this more than his finale.

The corrupted FCC and media owned by trump billionaires can sue and try to silence the people all they want. We will never stop with our right to free speech!

Civilization2

Fck CBS / Paramount / Skydance never support any of their manipulated offerings,. boycott these corporate control authoritarian losers.

Larry Flint lives!2

Watch it - it’s a gas! Then be sure to tell Bari about it.

MN Mame (she/her)2

Watched it twice so far. Alone, then with Hubby.

Mr Paul M B2

And I heard he used copyrighted music on his last show too. Hopefully CBS will get sued for millions.

Plicketyplunk2

Saw it, loved it, and I hope he does many more of these.

Frix Monarchly2

So.. what, they're trying to copyright his existence as Stephen Colbert?

Slip Slidin'2

DROP PARAMOUNT PLUS/ CBS ...

Elizabeth HD Francis2

Paramount going full Bob Lipka on Stephen Colbert. Canceling!

Tim Lowe2

I watched. It was loads of Dad joke funny. 👍🏽❤️

robin~eldest daughter~father figure~I protect the family2

Oh, dear. Sour Grapes, Paramount! We love Colbert, and no one can stop that!!!

Frivolous bullsh*t designed to harrass. F*ck the Ellison conglomerate.

When the people recognize their voice has power—and leverage it—the people win. apple.news/AsOb6ae5YSmS... Disney learned. open.substack.com/pub/joneseli... CBS/Paramount WILL learn. @mmfa.bsky.social @columjournreview.bsky.social @cbsnewyork.bsky.social @1acommittee.bsky.social @thr.com

lost-soul2

At there trying that CBS own’s his image?

🎸Paul🎹2

Please give that show an Emmy.

Megan2

I watched the whole show. It was fabulous.

Rick does Math and Stuff2

Looking forward to another explanation about how Colbert was canceled because "it was losing money!" as the top-rated show in its time period. When talk shows are literally the cheapest type of programming to produce.

Captain Fantastic2

CBS crying that the talent they fired is their intellectual property is a cope that is a poster child for their own stupidity.

Democrats Organizing For America2

30 years ago, at our neighborhood pool, an employee painted various beloved kids characters on the bottom of the kiddie pool every spring. Then Disney SUED, so the pool & the church preschool, etc. had to paint out their image of Mickey Mouse, because billionaire Disney demanded a cut. 🖕
