Team Moth reports several garden and tetrad firsts
Moth-trapping across the UK produced multiple new-for-year and new tetrad records, notably Pale Tussock and Treble-bar. Recordings included Treble Lines and Epinotia bilunana alongside Diamond-backed moths, showing a mix of common garden species and less frequent micros. One site recorded 95 specimens dominated by Heart and Dart but also registered Treble-bar as new for the year, while another trap was overwhelmed by Hydropsyche caddis that complicated moth identification. At Belper, new-for-year records included Celypha striana, Cydia pomonella, Varied Coronet and Scorched Wing, updating local tetrad data and distribution maps. These garden and tetrad firsts refine local species maps and help track changes in moth phenology and habitat health.
