Thom Tillis calls Ken Paxton a 'failure' amid Trump endorsement
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) on Sunday called Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) "a failure" and warned Paxton would be "an anchor on the GOP Senate" after President Trump endorsed Paxton over incumbent Sen. John Cornyn. Paxton has faced long-running legal troubles: he was indicted in 2015 on securities fraud charges, was impeached by the Texas House in 2023 on multiple articles, and has faced whistleblower complaints and a State Bar professional misconduct suit. Trump’s endorsement has bolstered Paxton in the primary, and some Cornyn allies say Cornyn would be a stronger November matchup against Democrat James Talarico. The public rebuke from an established GOP senator highlights a party split that could make a legally embattled nominee a central factor in WHO controls the Texas Senate seat this fall.
