Unreal Engine 6 announced, Rocket League shown on new engine
Epic Games announced Unreal Engine 6 at the Rocket League Championship Series 2026: Paris Major in Paris, and Psyonix showcased a new build of Rocket League running on the engine. Psyonix billed the update as a "new era" for the free-to-play vehicular soccer game and demonstrated upgraded visuals and systems in the UE6 build. Making Rocket League the first game publicly shown on Unreal Engine 6, the reveal signals Epic's push to move major live-service titles onto the next-generation engine and raises expectations for developer tools and performance improvements.
Epic has announced Unreal Engine 6. It's a 20% bigger number than 5, making it the biggest number they have ever announced. Unfortunately it fell short of the last major update (4 to 5), which was a whopping 25% increase.
Still haven't reached the scale of the now-defunct branch of Unreal Tournament, that went up to 2004.
The image suggests this is U to the power of 6, making it enormously larger
Godot is still on version 4, which means it's now whole 2 behind. Smh my head.
And as such shares fell 50% because the bigger number isn't as big a jump as the last big number jump.
This is why Unreal Engine 1 is the best 💯
I find it interesting... UE3 lasted roughly a decade, 4 roughly 7-8 yrs and 5 is looking to be around 5-6. UE7 coming out in 3-4 years??
who's ready for games running this engine to cause your pc to ignite into an inferno because Unreal is genuinely garbage
Get ready, for the worst optimization you've ever experienced, now with a big 6 tacked on!
I can't quite explain to you why, but them announcing Unreal Engine 6 by showing "Rocket League but it looks nice and shiny now" is super funny to me.
Also seeking this out required me to watch a bit of the Rocket League esports thing that is apparently happening right now and lemme tell you, if you like pudgy, pasty white dudes walking through smoke and tunnels and trying to look bad, this might be a good event for you to watch.
we need to make sure this game that runs on toasters gets beefed the fuck out and requires a 5090
It is extra stupid because I don't think they ever got it into UE5 like they said they would.
They announced a fucking Unreal Engine 6???
the new “look at the sweat on these wrestlers”
Unreal Engine 6 has been announced 🎮 First game powered by it will be ‘Rocket League’
I can't believe we're already jumping from UE5 to UE6 even though it feels like UE5 didn't come out that long ago Hoping this engine will at least run better than 5 though it prob won't
probably requires an entire data center to run it on
Is there some kind of generational change underlying the engine, or is this big marketing of number increases by one?
We gone be compiling shaders for an hour now
Is it wrong to say that this barely looks any different than Unreal 4 and 5?
They could not even make U5 to run properly
Will it run better than 5 at least
announcing unreal engine 6 when ue 5 still runs like… that and ram is 5000 dollars a gig is a crazy choice. but yuh gotta feed the furnace!
can’t wait to see what new games i will never play because the people making them are more concerned with the technology a game has than how it looks or plays
I am a little sad because I still like the look of unreal 4 and feel that it never reached its full potential. Even if it did have a lot of problems, I still liked it as an engine.
Bro at this point building an engine from scratch actually feels like a better time investment 😭
“Rocket League revealed for Unreal Engine 6” what if video games were normal again
they're making unreal engine *six* already?
i could be optimistic and assume this is a new engine that's actually optimised because they just couldnt wrangle UE5 into stability but also lmao, fat chance
"Introducing Unreal Engine 6 Rocket League! It now runs worse now! Why? Because we raytraced shadows over every blade of grass!"
people still care about rocket league?
Showing off the new Unreal Engine with Rocket League is like when they would show off the new PlayStation with Ridge Racer except people actually cared when they showed the new PlayStation with a Ridge Racer.
Helped that it was a new game to a lot of people
Gaming was at its best when every new console was shown off with a Racing game and a 3D Fighter at/near launch
something i think about a lot is that in the 3d vision community that fixes games up to properly display in stereoscopic 3d, there exists a "universal fix" for unreal engine that patches up every stock shader that shipped with the engine. lots of games don't even need their own fixes
