Boots Riley's I Love Boosters opens to mixed but loud reviews
Boots Riley's I Love Boosters opened this week as his sophomore feature following 2018's Sorry to Bother You, presenting a raunchy, absurdist corporate satire that focuses on community building and worker solidarity. Reviewers praised the film's wild inventiveness, bold political edge, energetic performances, production design, and cinematography. Several critics warned that the plot wanders, many ideas go unexplored, and heavy dialogue is often lost in poor sound mixing. Despite those flaws, I Love Boosters cements Riley as a distinctive, provocative filmmaker whose surreal comedy and leftist messaging make the film worth seeing.
Saw this last night. Fun as hell, cartoony but smart. Boots Riley is an inspired madman.
I finally got around to watching Sorry to Bother You and it was amazing. Very dream-like and just my style of weird. I'm so excited to see I Love Boosters now.
I really liked it, just balls-out bonkers, and the message was inspiring, to boot.
Lakeith Stanfield’s character was fucking wild
I love Keke Palmer. She’s so great.
Did he make a film based on one of his songs from 20 years ago? That rules
I LOVE BOOSTERS: 4/5 the wildest and most creative film of the year so far. A million ideas all interesting but some stuff gets abandoned and a lot of dialogue feels lost in bad sound mixing. But wild and fun and energetic and leftist as hell. Boots Riley needs to keep making movies.
The pros way outweigh the cons but there are a few weird big ideas thrown in then abandoned. But it swings big and delivers. Moore and Liu are big highlights. It's nice seeing a film that uses the medium for all it's worth.
oh man I thought the theater's sound system was just shit when I saw it, bummer that the dialog just sounds like That
Look it's not going to affect my decision as to whether or not to see I Love Boosters (I probably will, I just have to motivate to get to the theater) but is Boots Riley still an aggressive tankie?
I will never forget that he did a Twitter thread about how it's fine that Cuba has a one party system because that's just like having no political parties at all
Boots Riley is probably still annoyingly tankie & that shit was why I couldn’t ever get into The Coup. However, he’s a pretty phenomenal filmmaker & theres a level of cynical awareness of people that I thought offset any didacticism in Sorry To Bother You (loved it) so imagine/hope this is similar?
Yes he is, he jsut doesnt post on social media because every time he does a stupid take people rightly call him out for it.
