I've seen this take that "Grogu was only supposed to be a temporary plot point in The Mandalorian, but after it went viral and proved popular they kept him in" and that is not at all what any of the creators of the show have said. It was always intended to be Lone Wolf & Cub in space. 🤷

The Mandalorian and Grogu is a fun film. It has some faults and most of it I'd consider a matter of preference. There were a whole lot of enjoyable moments and it's unique compared to any of the other films. It isn't the best film of all time, but critics are greatly exaggerating their reviews.
