Stephen Colbert hosts public-access TV show in Monroe, Michigan
One day after signing off The Late Show on CBS, Stephen Colbert guest-hosted Monroe Community Media's public-access program Only in Monroe in Monroe, Michigan, appearing alongside Jack White and Jeff Daniels. The May 22, 2026 episode mixed sketches and interviews, with Colbert quipping, "I am grateful to be here before they also get acquired by Paramount." Colbert's surprise appearance brought late-night profile to a small local outlet and showed how established hosts can use community TV to experiment outside network constraints.
Colbert has provided ample evidence with Only In Monroe that all the resources he had at The Ed was NOT what made him funny and worthy. He can literally go to a cable access channel, do the same thing, and still be funny and worthy. He doesn't need CBS. The Network was holding him back.
Make sure people can find the show! I just watched it. It was very entertaining. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DlF...
And the guy is worth $78m. He can easily retire if he wants but I think he’ll move on to something less restrained as you said. He is very, very funny in a way that a lot of comedians are not.
Arguably he's funnier like this.
Colbert may well emerge from the late night shadows to far greater effect than before. Colbert 2028
💯 It’s perfection. He brings his comedic genius everywhere he goes and always has (and yes, that’s Steve Carell too)… youtu.be/Y3K7Qc6vW5Q?...
Jack White's 'bored sidekick' shtick was hilarious too!
Im watching it now. It's wonderful television!
You can support the wonderful public access station that made this possible at their website: www.monroecommunitymedia.org
Methinks he also watched some SCTV as a youngster 😉
I, for one, am looking forward to Colbert Unleashed.
I am watching it now. It’s fabulous!
The man can start a show tomorrow and be better than anyone like he was yesterday!
FWIW, it never even crossed my mind that being on CBS had *anything* to do with whether he could be funny or was worthy of being a beloved celebrity. He shines simply because of who he is, IMO 🙂
cbs can air the second coming. I’ll catch a free stream, or just go find one to sit by. F cbs. Complete B S
Fucking hilarious. Better than the other show. The hosts were great. The professor off camera lol.. and Genevieve omg, so funny. Hope he does more of these all over the place
He and Jeff Daniels eating a starving artist sandwich together was side-splitting.
If he would do appearances (large tours) in varied cities, he can fill large facilities, make lots of money and make thousands of people happy. Then buy his own TV station.
I agree. I watched him on Only in Monroe.. Just think, there once was no CBS, NBC, and the like. Someone created them. Someone else can also create avenues for programs and be creative to avoid government censure somehow. This is not the end of Colbert.
Public access tv will save us
LOL last night Stephen Colbert spent an hour hosting public access "Only in Monroe"
I would totally watch this show on a regular basis. Jack White is a hilarious sidekick.
The review of chili dogs 30 minutes is some of the best cable access content ever produced in the history of cable access content.
my wife was saying he should just go around doing random public access forever
so funny. 10/10 for the appearance by the regular hosts & Genevieve.
Let's get this to 10.000.000 subscribers. www.youtube.com/@colbert
He’s having a blast doing this. Everything about it is perfect.
Stay for the Buscemi's Pizza PSA from Steve Buscemi
I just watched this and it was 💯 an hour well spent.
Raised on public access, this is exactly my style
The segment with Jeff Daniels, the sandwich and the water bottle was incredible.
Colbert is only more relevant and influential.
Stephen Colbert has higher ratings on public access television than Donald Trump has from the White House.
I’m five minutes in and it’s already way funnier than his CBS finale.
Genevieve was the surprise breakout star. She was giving Sona Movsesian vibes, and I loved it.
So yesterday Trump posted a video of him crashing Stephen Colbert's final show, and literally throwing him in the garbage, and of course, I had to FIX it. #DonaldTrump #StephenColbert
Yes, that is more appropriate. The correction is very well done and correct.
Thank you! That was my first thought when I saw the video. It should be the other way around Colbert disposing of the orange buffoon
Can you post it on the White House web site???
Exactly what I was hoping you would do. My brother-in-law just pointed out that his tie went missing. LOL.
Yesssss, that's how we do it!
He needs his own bin 😏
Trump stole his tie on the way in 😂
“It’s been an excruciating 23 hours without being on TV. So I am grateful to be here on Monroe Community Media before they are also acquired by Paramount.” www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
Jack White, unsung freakin' hero musical sidekick
I still desperately need to understand how a mostly unprofitable company a hundred billion in debt that insists on scuttling its most successful ventures is permitted to go well over 2 hundred million in debt in order to acquire another company that is in fact quite profitable?
Pretty sure none of the right wingers who are celebrating the end of Stephen Colbert's show have ever actually watched the show. To describe Colbert as smug, arrogant, far left & tantrum throwing is so far from the truth that it's laughable.
I actually read that piece. I can't imagine that guy teaching a class.
The outpouring of support & love he received from actors, comedians, authors, musicians, politicians, scientists, etc was because of his arrogance? No, relationships/ friendships matter which is why Colbert is adored. Known for his kindness and wit. Meanwhile Tim worships Fox News. The Hate Machine
Yeah, granted, I agree with his politics, but he always has mainly seemed to be a kind (and very funny) person and Trump couldn't take a little gentle ribbing.
Not doing the reading makes it easier to lie, whether to oneself or for one’s bosses when they expect and pay for the lie rather than the truth. (My phone initially autocorrected “one’s bosses” to “bruised ego”, which itself is incredible given the subtext.)
Tone trolling on a national media scale.
If maga educates themselves, it makes it harder for them to be maga so they just lie instead. And they do love to fib. No reading allowed! Unless it's the menu at McDonald’s Sheez, they are so willfully ignorant at this point, they probably think Donald owns McDonald’s. 😬
USA Today is not a real newspaper. What utter rubbish.
