Stephen Colbert hosts public-access TV show in Monroe, Michigan

comedyMay 23, 2026958,077

One day after signing off The Late Show on CBS, Stephen Colbert guest-hosted Monroe Community Media's public-access program Only in Monroe in Monroe, Michigan, appearing alongside Jack White and Jeff Daniels. The May 22, 2026 episode mixed sketches and interviews, with Colbert quipping, "I am grateful to be here before they also get acquired by Paramount." Colbert's surprise appearance brought late-night profile to a small local outlet and showed how established hosts can use community TV to experiment outside network constraints.

Colbert has provided ample evidence with Only In Monroe that all the resources he had at The Ed was NOT what made him funny and worthy. He can literally go to a cable access channel, do the same thing, and still be funny and worthy. He doesn't need CBS. The Network was holding him back.

And the guy is worth $78m. He can easily retire if he wants but I think he’ll move on to something less restrained as you said. He is very, very funny in a way that a lot of comedians are not.

Arguably he's funnier like this.

Colbert may well emerge from the late night shadows to far greater effect than before. Colbert 2028

💯 It’s perfection. He brings his comedic genius everywhere he goes and always has (and yes, that’s Steve Carell too)… youtu.be/Y3K7Qc6vW5Q?...

Jack White's 'bored sidekick' shtick was hilarious too!

I, for one, am looking forward to Colbert Unleashed.

The man can start a show tomorrow and be better than anyone like he was yesterday!

FWIW, it never even crossed my mind that being on CBS had *anything* to do with whether he could be funny or was worthy of being a beloved celebrity. He shines simply because of who he is, IMO 🙂

cbs can air the second coming. I’ll catch a free stream, or just go find one to sit by. F cbs. Complete B S

Fucking hilarious. Better than the other show. The hosts were great. The professor off camera lol.. and Genevieve omg, so funny. Hope he does more of these all over the place

He and Jeff Daniels eating a starving artist sandwich together was side-splitting.

If he would do appearances (large tours) in varied cities, he can fill large facilities, make lots of money and make thousands of people happy. Then buy his own TV station.

I agree. I watched him on Only in Monroe.. Just think, there once was no CBS, NBC, and the like. Someone created them. Someone else can also create avenues for programs and be creative to avoid government censure somehow. This is not the end of Colbert.

Pretty sure none of the right wingers who are celebrating the end of Stephen Colbert's show have ever actually watched the show. To describe Colbert as smug, arrogant, far left & tantrum throwing is so far from the truth that it's laughable.
