Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu opens in theaters
Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu opened in theaters this week, bringing Din Djarin and Grogu to the big screen in a feature-length outing. Critics praised Grogu and the father-son chemistry, and a three-and-a-half-star review highlighted the score, production design, and emotional beats. Reviewers also noted the film feels episodic and TV-like, functioning more like several season-quality episodes stitched together with low-stakes action and surprise cameos. The release matters because it tests adapting popular streaming characters for theaters while delivering a crowd-pleasing, family-friendly Star Wars entry for the summer movie season.
Now I want more of Babu Frik and Anzellans going on Tolkien-style adventures in Star Wars thanks to #TheMandalorianAndGrogu!
Still funny to me how the Anzellans of all things became universally beloved kind of like the porgs in The Last Jedi.
I’m not even joking when I say I’d love a little show about them lol
i’ve been ambivalent on anzellans since 2019 but there were so many grown men genuinely giggling and teeheeing at their antics at all the screenings i’ve been to so i feel like i have to support the joy and whimsy that they bring to the world
Wicket, Grogu, Babu Frik, a Porg, BB-8, R2-D2, and C-3PO going on all kinds of crazy adventures together like the old Droids show.
I need them to meet the Armorer. I think they’d admire the skill possessed by the other, and it’d drive the Mando crazy.
Their tiny little starship was ADORABLE!
Accurate. Then again I’m old enough to have deeply loved Fraggle Rock with the Fraggles & the tiny little Dozers so that doesn’t surprise me! 😅
I don't know who does their voices, but they manage to be ridiculously funny. The one muttering "That's a big pipe," got a huge laugh in my audience.
Get the Jim Hensen company involved and make an all puppet star wars movie alla The Dark Crystal. It won't make its money back but YouTubers will talk about it for centuries.
What is so funny about “The Mandalorian and Grogu” is that the people screaming “sTaR wArS iS rUiNeD!” are those who got exactly what they wanted. Fan service, references, extended universe nonsense in continuity, surgical amputation of any artistic perspective. Enjoy, guys!
I liked the movie quite a lot, but if the fake-shouty-beardos on YT (who also didn't like Andor, or Acolyte, or Ashoka, or anything recently, if I recall) are down on it that thoroughly proves they're only fans of being mad at 'Star Wars,' which isn't surprising anymore
they've been getting exactly what they wanted since Rise of Skywalker and they still haven't put 2 and 2 together on why it's not working out
At least we got Andor.
I dunno, Raiders of the Lost Ark with muppets is what I expected and what I got. I was satisfied.
There were just so many easy ways it could have been a much better movie. At least it didn’t make me angry like Rise of Skywalker did.
How do you see its chances on getting voted into the 250? 😅
Dudes will say “bring back George Lucas” and get mad about MANDALORIAN & GROGU even though that’s exactly the movie he would have made if he had infinite time in the 80s
I loved MANDALORIAN & GROGU because it was cut from the same cloth as the Ewok movies. This is CAPTAIN EO-core (literally has a character from CAPTAIN EO in it that I’ve seen no one discuss). I was too tickled by the use of puppets and stop-motion to give a normal movie review. 2 blessed 2B stressed
It would easily have been “Mandalorian and Grogu the Ewok”
If you'd told me when The Mandalorian came out that the movie version would be on track to be a poorly rated franchise low, I would have blinked in surprise. Now...I am hardly shocked. HOW does one drop the creative ball as hard as Disney managed to? Oh right, by putting Volume over Quality.
I mean...it's JUST a space western. It's LITERALLY just that, even more so than any other star wars thing they ever did. HOW DO YOU EVEN SCREW THAT UP? I mean by working artists and writers to death and micromanaging everything to within an inch of its life that's how.
They did the same thing with Marvel, they're really good at milking things till nobody cares anymore
Companies wring IPs out for all they're worth, dunk them, and wring them out again till the fibers give out
