UK net migration falls to 171,000 while many voters think it’s rising
The Office for National Statistics reports UK net migration fell to about 171,000 in the latest official figures. That is a drop of more than three quarters from the 2023 peak above 900,000. British Future's annual Immigration Attitudes Tracker finds voters across parties incorrectly believe net migration is rising. The tracker shows those misperceptions correlate with stronger support for immigration reductions and for parties promising cuts, helping explain why immigration remains a central political issue.
Net migration falls to 171,000 — down 48 per cent in a year The immigration figures from the Office for National Statistics are at the lowest level since early 2021 Won't hear a peep out of Nigel Farage or Reform UK www.thetimes.com/uk/politics/...
No they've predictably moved on to a different group of vulnerable people to demonise - people on disability benefits and blue badge holders. Fascists always need an enemy and when one disappears they'll invent another.
Are you suggesting that this is a good thing?
Who is Farage going to target now... all the rapists/sex attackers on BBC newsfeed yesterday were white British... (see More or Less yesterday for debunking of more false stats about migrant crime rates)
NEW: Net migration has fallen to 171,000 in 2025- lowest level since 2021 and covid pandemic. Down from 944,000 peak in 2022-23. Use of asylum hotels down by a third since peak.
Imagine the Tories or Reform brought immigration down to this level, small boats down by 40%, asylum hotels down by a third. Large and maintained falls in the NHS waiting lists, largest fall in the deficit in years. All in under 2 years. Almost like it only matters if it's their team.
"and here's our political editor Chris Mason on why this is good news for Reform"
If this is what Reform voters want, then Labour need to promote this "achievement" as much as humanly possible. ...even though it is detrimental to the UK economy.
There is not a number it could fall to that would make those who bleat on about it happy.
Can’t wait for the flagshaggers’ response to this 😂 The same mob at the Unite The Kingdom rally last week: “End migration! Deportations now! Rule Britannia!”… then straight off to flood London’s curry houses for a chicken tikka and pint of Cobra! Patriotism apparently ends where the menu starts 🤦♂️
That'll be all over the front pages tomorrow then....
Are we going to address the fact that pandering to thick racists has damaged the economy? Or are we all still pretending that reducing immigration is good?
What's the plan to deal with our aging population then? Work Houses?
It’s actually an act of self harm 🤷♂️
Net migration to the UK fell to 171,000 in 2025, new figures show - the lowest level since 2012, excluding Covid (It hit a peak of 944,000 in the year to March 2023)
That's genuinely not good. Fewer and fewer of us trying to keep economy going. It's just not sustainable
So Reform will now say its about getting rid of the ones already here 😒
& yet, much of our media dance to Farage's tune with near non stop hateful scaremongering! Facts literally stand against "reform" & their nonsense!
Hopefully this will be explained to Reform at every opportunity.
1.Be prepared for a Reform distortion or outright lie to counter these statistics. 2. What is the effect on the economy of falling net immigration? I know Victoria will be ready with this, unfortunately we can’t rely on her colleagues to be so professional.
Have you asked Farage yet for a comment ?
OK. Let's share, share, share this baby! Show it to anyone who says there is too much immigration, who witters on about migrants and "small boats". Net migration has DROPPED, but voters (thanks to the UK media and our politicians) think it is rising. www.theguardian.com/world/2026/m...
Bookmark the link, you might need to share it later. Voters are wrong: immigration isn't rising. Net migration has fallen. And, as ever, the politicians and media want us worrying about immigration so we ignore the bigger problems our country has. www.theguardian.com/world/2026/m...
The thing is though, no one who follows me is likely to be one of those bigoted, racist and/ or thick people who vote right-wing / believe their propaganda. Even if they ever followed me by accident they'd have unfollowed pretty sharpish. So we're not reaching those we need to reach!
BBC daily boat watch for several years does not help
They won't allow themselves to accept it because they the whole "our resources are too stretched" argument becomes not that important and they have to admit they are just racist after all.
