James Murdoch buys half of Vox Media
James Murdoch’s Lupa Systems will acquire Vox.com, New York magazine, and Vox Media’s podcast network for more than $300 million, a package that amounts to roughly a 50 percent stake in Vox Media. The deal does not include other Vox Media brands such as The Verge and Eater, which will continue operating under a separate independent company. Lupa Systems said it intends to support "thoughtful journalism," and the purchase brings New York magazine and Vox’s audio business into James Murdoch’s media holdings. The transaction gives Murdoch a major foothold in U.S. digital and podcast news and splits Vox Media’s portfolio between two owners.
