James Stewart remembered on his birthday
On May 20, film pages and admirers commemorated actor James Stewart's birthday (born 1908), sharing quotes, stills, and fan art. Tributes spotlighted his "I will not yield" line from Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, a Rear Window commission rendered in ink, pencil, and watercolor, a 1940 set photo of Stewart with Margaret Sullavan and Ernst Lubitsch from The Shop Around the Corner, and his quote about graduating with an architecture degree and a scholarship to return to Princeton. The reminders underline Stewart's enduring influence on midcentury American cinema and give clear entry points for new viewers to revisit his landmark performances and films.
It’s James Stewart’s birthday. Seen here in The Matrix (1946) Dir: Frank Capra
Love the scene where Morpheus tries to trick Neo into taking the wrong pill
"So you see, Neo, you really had a wonderful life."
"I'm not the One here! He's in Bill's house! Or Fred's house!"
“Years ago, Agent Smith, my mother used to say to me, she'd say, 'In this world, Neo, you must be oh so smart, or oh so pleasant.' Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant.”
Ah yes, the classic scene where Neo points out the flaw in Morpheus' claim that everybody's representation within the Matrix is based on their "residual self-image". IIRC, they had to cut the end of that scene, though I know some claim Capra didn't even actually film it.
You made me choke on my cup of tea, you are such an idiot

One of my favorite Jimmy Stewart movies of all times is Harvey.
One of the all-time greats.
Made a chart one time of greatest American films before 2000 (yeah I’m that type), then cross-referenced with IMDB to see which American actor/actress starred in the most classics. James Stewart, by a mile.
