The Mandalorian and Grogu debuts around 63% on Rotten Tomatoes
The Mandalorian and Grogu opened with roughly a 62 to 63 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, landing the film near the lower end of Star Wars critical reception. Critics praised Jon Favreau's action, expansive world-building, and the film's sweeping score but faulted a piecemeal script and underdeveloped characters across disparate acts. The movie hits theaters May 22, 2026, and this lukewarm critical start will shape box-office expectations and perceptions of the Mandalorian franchise's move from streaming to big-screen releases.

I don’t wanna hear another word from the neckbeards about how great Filoni is.
They should have made Muppet Star Wars
Should've ended at Season 2
Ain't nobody looking at the critic ratings, it's all about the popcorn meter. Some of the best films of all time have low critic ratings.
never make a Star War again 🥰🙏
Aw man! 😖 I’m still going to see it, but sheesh…
That’s the issue with these long standing franchises, they are getting milked to death and with really diminishing returns. The Star Wars sequel trilogy had much money thrown at it, but had zero plan for a cohesive story. The TV series aside from Andor and Mandalorian have been marginal to poor.
I don’t think the movie knows what it wants to be. It replaced S4 but is also an entry point for those who’ve never seen the show. Good in theory, but it’s been six years since the first season and the status quo has just been reverted to being the exact same as it was.
‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ is at 63% on Rotten Tomatoes • Based on 68 reviews • One of the lowest-rated Star Wars films
The only critics that matters are your own.
Sure. Ok. We’ve heard that before, but somehow people will go and love it in spite of those 68 reviews. Maybe it’s not for everyone.
Honestly, the audience score is the only thing that somewhat matters.
As long as it’s fun
What pessimistic framing. Based on 68 reviews... and still only 37% of those early critics didn't love it... so that like 25 cinephiles who didn't think the film was the greatest... ok. Still not the lowest Star Wars film (and even the "worst" Star Wars film is a great film).
Was checking out reviews on Rotten Tomatoes for The Mandalorian And Grogu and this feels like an OnCinema bit
I refuse to believe this was written unironically and in earnest by a professional critic
See, the worst thing a film can be in my opinion is bland. .... this sounds bland.
Consistently hearing that there’s basically no women in this movie (Weaver’s role is apparently massively exaggeratedin the ads) is really driving me up a wall. They’re so scared of the chuds over TLJ even 9 years later for no reason
The funniest thing is that i can totally see either tim or greg saying this. It somehow fits both of them perfectly
gonna be adding ‘ — which sounds to me like "Wayland Flowers and Madame"’ into my vernacular as a tawdry comparison insult to make people go “huh??” more often
“This is a real movie and nothing less”. When I go into a theatre, sit down with my The Amazing Digital Circus limited Edition popcorn bucket and have the $50k seat underneath me tickle my butt so I can feel an emotion about a puppet and guy in a helmet in a real movie; NOTHING LESS.
Wait, what? There are women in the movie. Sigourney weaver is in every trailer
this reads like an episode of Gaming In The Clinton Years
No women that make a group very happy
A few years I realized I was no longer going to watch everything from Star Wars, Marvel, DC or Disney/Pixar, and the revelation was a little bit sad but also not. (That said, the first two seasons of The Mandalorian are fun, and a quick watch.)
Maybe I'll give it a shot at some point. I'm a tough sell with TV. It's a time commitment!
Yeah I cut bait on star wars after Rise of Skywalker; watched Andor which I think it fine. There are still dozens of East Side Kids movies i havent seen if i need to watch slop
I’ve skipped nine of the last ten Pixar films (saw SOUL), after watching 17 of the first 20 (passed on GOOD DINO and the CARS sequels). Which seems insane, but I’ve just lost all interest in that animation style. Kind of a problem since it’s pervasive.
