Jury rejects Elon Musk's lawsuit against Sam Altman and OpenAI
A California jury unanimously rejected Elon Musk's lawsuit against Sam Altman and OpenAI, finding the company and its CEO not liable. After a three-week trial, jurors deliberated about two hours before ruling that two of Musk's claims were barred by the statute of limitations and the third claim failed once one of those claims was dismissed. The suit accused Altman and OpenAI of betraying the company's public-benefit mission, but the verdict ends Musk's legal challenge and leaves OpenAI's leadership intact. The decision matters because it removes a major legal cloud over OpenAI's governance and could influence how future disputes over executive conduct in fast-moving AI startups are litigated.
Reuters: U.S. JURY FINDS OPENAI, CEO SAM ALTMAN NOT LIABLE TO ELON MUSK FOR STRAYING FROM CHARITABLE MISSION, BECAUSE MUSK WAITED TOO LONG TO SUE
They are both such despicable fuckers
. Hey Elon Musk, Life punishes those who arrive too late ! 💠 🧐 💠
Still not buying a Tesla 🚗
As enjoyable as it is to see Musk take a punch, it was messed up that OpenAI turned a non-profit into a for-profit with a little non-profit bump.
Can we make it so they both lose?
Not a fan of AI, but I am a fan of Elon Musk losing in court…or losing at anything if I’m being honest.
I was hoping both teams would lose..
Ugh....I wanted them both to lose.
Congratulations to lawyers on both sides for getting a tidy payday.
All of which, of course, would have been known by Musk and his lawyers before he launched the suit. So this is all part of the billionaire strategy of using lawsuits as weapons just to fuck with people, even if they know they're going to lose. Still, Altman is hot garbage too.
Can't they be made fight beside an erupting volcano, with both falling into the magma?
Good. He can fk off forever
So weird this was given to the jury. Statute of limitations is typically a legal question addressed by the court, not a fact question left up to the jury
Elon Musk suffered the worst defeat possible in his legal battle against OpenAI as a federal jury and a judge ruled he waited too long to bring his claims against the AI startup and its top executives, Sam Altman and Greg Brockman.
The nine-member jury panel took just two hours to return a verdict in favor of OpenAI on Monday, which the judge quickly adopted as her own final decision. They found that statutes of limitations expired well before Musk filed his lawsuit in 2024.
So unfair. There really ought to have been a way for both plaintiffs and defendants to lose.
Both seem like bad guys, so hardly a win.
They are all lunatics and scumbags.
I wish they both could have lost
It's the plot of the very boring prequel to the #Terminator. Two rich maniacs squabble over who's Ai will get the traction, to secure the contract, to control the nukes, that destroy the world when the Ai renames itself 'Skynet' and proves to be as hostile to humanity as these two are.
Elon loses one case and instantly melts down. Trump swoops in with a pity‑slush‑fund to soothe the ego bruises, and the moment he is done playing victim, they’ll aim the fallout straight at Sam Altman because a new feud is easier than accountability. MORE of our tax dollars going to a billionaire!
Can geniuses be inept? Is that a thing?
hardly a loss, considering Elon is about to dip his greedy paws in our collective pocket "like never before" here's explainer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rS3...
I guess this is the best good news we hope for nowadays — horribly awful and evil man loses to terribly bad but slightly less damaging (so far) evil man… Yay?
Techfascist Musk verliest rechtzaak tegen OpenAI.
After jury decides Elon waited too long to sue Sam Altman, Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers says she was ready to dismiss on the spot. Which, by not doing, resulted in a whole lot of damning information getting into the public record. www.reuters.com/legal/govern...
What's weird is that SOL is usually dealt with at the summary judgment stage. When a cause of action accrues is a legal question and when suit is filed isn't arguable.
Yay I guess? Altman is just as much a dickbag as Musk. Wasting the courts time with billionaire tiny dick energy is always a loss.
Good, the South African immigrant exploiter Ruining America should be deported.
They're both unaccountable psychopaths. Ideally, their heads should be pounded together repeatedly until there's nothing but a bloody pulp remaining.
Elon Musk has lost his lawsuit against Sam Altman and OpenAI about as badly and quickly as you can lose a lawsuit. from @peard33.bsky.social and @mzeff.bsky.social
Was hoping there was a way for both parties to lose, but I’ll take this.
I feel like you had this ready to go!
Elon Musk and reality have a complicated relationship...
I wanted someone to lash their wrists together and have them settle this with a good old-fashioned knife fight.
I was really hoping they’d both lose. Twats.
ELON LOST! Elon's suit against Sam Altman and OpenAI largely hinged on whether the case was within the statute of limitations: 3 years. OpenAI sent Elon their plans to transition to a for-profit company in 2018. He claimed in court that he never read that memo. Jury didn't believe him. He lost.
And at the end of the day, we all still lose somehow as well
There are no winners here, just losers…major fucking losers on both sides
Not a fan of ai in general anyway, but I am a fan of Elon losing.
The entire lawsuit was ridiculous. It amounted to an Elon hissyfit, driven by his seller's remorse. He was never going to win this case, and it's amazing that it even got this far.
Just in: Musk had sought to oust Altman from his leadership position over claims that he and others breached their duty to OpenAI's original nonprofit mission and unjustly enriched themselves.
Wish they could've both lost.
“Unjustly enriched themselves” is Elon’s middle name.
World's richest man accuses others of enriching themselves. Amazing.
altman was ousted by *his own* board for lying (something nazi elmo does on a daily basis), then he was reinstated and the entire board was fired.. they’re both con-artist billionaires who never face consequences or accountability for their crimes
Regular working people who run the real economy don’t care about billionaires brats fighting each other
BREAKING: Elon Musk loses landmark AI trial to Open AI, Sam Altman
Wish they both could lose
The real loser is society for having to deal with these sociopathic billionaires
Statute of limitations. I don’t like either one of these guys. But any bad day for Musk is a good day for the rest of us.
Tragic that someone won the case
I am so glad to hear this.
One feudal Lord loses to another feudal Lord. So what?
