This was just a publicity stunt for all involved - Rousey, Carano & Netflix. I don't watch MMA, but I happened to see it at a bar. It was clear during the intros that Carano had no intention of fighting, didn't want to get hurt or damage her face. It was a sham & they got paid (too) well for it.

I've always wondered how that works. The promoters, organizations and advertisers pay for their allotted time and these shows are supposed to last upwards of 4 hours. So then multiple fights end in the first round, cutting into the all that ad space and what not. Who's footing the bill there?

That was always the most likely outcome of that fight. Most of Rousey's fights ended in an early armbar tapout. Carano was an early pioneer in the sport but she was never an amazing fighter or athlete. For all the problems with Rousey, she's a pretty amazing athlete and looked in incredible shape.
