Nigel Farage bought £1.4m house after £5m gift

newsMay 15, 2026846,299

Nigel Farage bought a £1.4 million property in cash in May 2024 after receiving a £5 million personal gift from Thailand-based crypto investor Christopher Harborne, and the parliamentary standards watchdog has opened an investigation. Farage described the £5 million as a 'reward' for Brexit; Reform UK says the purchase process began before the gift and that Farage told the party he used earnings from I'm A Celebrity to fund the house. The probe matters because parliamentary rules require declaration of large gifts and it will examine whether the Reform UK leader failed to disclose funding linked to the property purchase.

Nigel Farage insisting "I cannot be bought," after being exposed for secretly trousering £5 million from a crypto billionaire, buying a house with the money, and then immediately launching a lobbying campaign for the crypto industry, is quite something

We shouldn't forget how blatant it all was bylinetimes.com/2025/12/04/c...

Jim Process100

He was taking £100 Cameo jobs to say "I'm a little ducky, quack quack quack", but sure, I'll take your £5 million but don't expect any favours 🫠

Sarah Murphy85

He was being paid by Nazis and far right thugs to do Cameo videos, saying god knows what to god knows who, until that was exposed as a howling security threat. He’s an absolute tart for a bit of cash. Hopefully it will be his downfall.

robod99.bsky.social22

I can't be bought says the man who was paid to wish Hugh Jannus happy birthday.

Justin Alexander12

He can't be bought. But he can be rented for extended periods of time.

Tom O'Connell5

Getting £5m for delivering Brexit from some billionaire is nothing short of a payoff. Graft.

southernreiver.bsky.social5

Ah, you misinterpreted this. He said he couldn't be bought. He didn't say he couldn't be bought several times over, or by multiple parties.

sarcasmisaweapon.bsky.social4

I believe they call it ‘ taking refuge in audacity’.

infrasupra.bsky.social4

Farage can be bought but sadly the ordinary people who vote for him can’t afford him

Ruth Shaw3

I also want questions asking about Russian interference. We've seen this across the pond. There was an unreleased Russia Report in the UK which apparently wasn't comprehensive. Farage was on Russian TV a lot? More questions. And NOW.

The So Called Gang Of One 🇬🇧3

'Nice guy' Nige can't be bought. No. Not like Nathan Gill by those Russians. The Quisling probably nearly fainted when he heard about that.

Dee the KittyServant3

People are often, IMO, fooled by the idea that electing wealthy people means those people can't be bought. Their very wealth, tells us THEY CAN, it's how they become (more) wealthy. Why else would bankers, fund managers, top lawyers etc etc., leave lucrative jobs, to earn much less in politics?

Enfinity Cast3

The psychology of someone declaring their incorruptibility while literally describing their corruption is fascinating — like a real-time study in cognitive dissonance and strategic gaslighting.

Democracy Crisis2

What a tosser. He's in bed with Trump and the rest of the authoritarians and tech bros. Toss him in the bin.

⬇️ Economy down £240bn. ⬇️ Investment down 18%. ⬇️ 4000 fewer doctors in the NHS. ⬇️ £90bn less in tax revenue. 💰 All so he could pocket a few quid. He doesn't care about the working class, he is taking the country for a mug.

John Rendel25

Yes! In his own words, Farage got £5m for campaigning for and securing Brexit which has cost the UK £billions. This needs to be the much-repeated line over the next 3 years.

Mathis Riehle10

Clear evidence that BREXIT was bought by billionaires

Harvest9

More importantly this is ‘payment for services’ - taxable

Chris8

Yeah, that's my guy. He sounds like just the person to turn to when the other parties have let you down. Bring on the sunny uplands! Sheesh, how did we get so dumb? Have they been putting something in the water?

Markeye5

Difficult to see this as anything but a backhander - a bribe specifically to deliver political outcomes. Farage is a bought man. Bought by the interests of big finance, not the working man.

Mageve #FBPE5

For every £1 #Farage got, the UK lost….how much? Would love to see a calculation of this figure. Jesus. £5m to wreck a country. Cheap. #Brexit.

fallongolf.bsky.social5

Farage did actually give you Brexit, with a whole lot of lies and deceit which ended with gutting the economy and isolating the country. Now it looks like you English are going to put him in Downing Street. How f’ing stupid can you get. 🤦🏻

Elly Davis4

A crypto billionaire gives huge sums to Farage, and Farage then promotes a highly favourable crypto policy.🤔 He's a stoker, he's a hoaxer He's a backroom broker.

Simon Woodgate 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🇵🇸🇪🇺3

"Man of the people" But..... which 'people' exactly?

crasus.bsky.social3

5 millions is not a few quid!!! Some may see it as a huge bribe

Loping ted3

Brexit campaigning is political activity and should have been declared And canpigning is work or providing a service so it should be taxable income aswell Be interesting to see how this slippery cunt tries to wriggle out of it

The Analyst3

He’ll Make his mid up One day

Ken Spearpoint3

F*rage and his corrupt cronies don’t give a 💩 for the economy of the millions of people badly affected by Brexit.

Bilodea3

IMHO the other parties need to form a patriotic alliance to keep reform out of parliament and all forms of government in the UK. The 3/4's of the population who didn't vote for the fascists need to take back control.

James Steel3

Pound shop orange turd, how the gullible and hard of thinking are so easily fooled.

Alex Sowden3

Reform UK voters won't care about Farridge appearing to have pocketed a £5M bribe. They'll all think it's a conspiracy that's been cooked up by the British establishment and the liberal media to discredit their beloved "man of the people" Farridge. bsky.app/profile/best...

Layla3

Furthermore Farage has stated in an interview that he purchased the Clacton house without using the £5 million pound donation! He therefore OWES stamp duty. Who is going to pick up on this story as it wont be the mainstream media who bend over backwards for Farage.

Burning Astronomers2

I thought he said it was for his security protection?🤔 Always tell the truth Nige, that way, you don’t have to remember anything.

TweetJohnnyBoy2

The word you're looking for is: Traitor

Wirral2

Yeah, but Nige is 5mill richer and has a high paying job at the Russia Today Opinion Channel.

9hertfordstreet.bsky.social2

"Reward" = "grift", or "pay=off"?

G.H. Peters2

I expected him to be paid in roubles.

Chris Nimmo2

Farage really is a mirror image of Donald Trump. A complete con man. Someone who is thoroughly dislikable.

Beth Unlimited2

"gift"? "reward"? The British have a funny way of saying "bribe".

Nualaatpeace2

Like his house in Clacton it's melting ice with his lies & excuses. None matter. He's a deceitful, corrupt tool 🔥 out to shaft us, sell us out as he did with Brexit 🔥 remember the Russian involvement. He pockets the Dosh & disappears.🔥 He's a corrupt, hateful racist who detests the UK and Europe.

columbiabyoasis.bsky.social2

It's utterly baffling that the impacts of Brexit are not shoved in his face every time he's on camera. Our media are cowards.

Bird free2

So the 'gift' is now payment for services rendered.

David Lavin2

He's just as corrupt as the orange 🤡

Varanimal2

So every country on earth germinates its own a-holes. You guys got this guy.

Otto English
@ottoenglish.bsky.social

Farage doesn't think the usual rules apply to him. He thinks he's a special case and that the world needs to stand around clapping as some Thai dwelling crypto billionaire hands him £5 million for making Brexit happen. This is NOT normal www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Carol Hedges33

Johnson was the same. Trump is the same.

Janey Llou (Jane to my friends)15

If that’s the house he lied about his girlfriend buying him we need to know what HMRC will be doing about the Stamp Duty he dodged.

Alan11

If it was reward for doing something, then it wasn't a gift and he should have paid tax on it. I have to pay my plumber today, if I say it's a gift for sorting my heating out maybe I can avoid VAT and he can avoid income tax on it.

Agrippa10

When you get away with it for 20 years getting away with it becomes the norm.

djdavideon.bsky.social10

I wonder if the solicitors checked where the cash came from. Standard anti money laundering checks should have step alarms ringing

ChrisMcS529

Farage has always skirted round the rules as he fleeces all and sundry - as an MEP he did the same.

Stuart Hemingway8

It needs a name how about “populist extremism”

God-Emperor Tsunami 💙 #FBPE #BLM #GTTO7

And there was me thinking he needed the money for security. Not exactly sure how big a ballroom £5 million will get you but I'm sure it would be at least milkshake proof...

red1hols.bsky.social7

I don't see the problem. Farage always promised there were huge rewards from Brexit. He just forgot to tell us that the huge rewards are just for him and the rest of us would just have to suck it up.

Handren Marph6

Aladdin’s cave, and spent 20 years fleecing the EU as an MEP. And he still gets £75000 year pension. What more do people need to know about this professional Charlatan?

Sir Garfield De Umfreville, Baronet Bywell5

It’s perfectly normal for privileged Ex-Public School boys though. Johnson was the dame, Tice is the same. They look down on us plebs with contempt and disdain. They are convinced of their ‘right’ to do whatever they want because they are better than us. Bought privilege.

Sue5

I don’t understand how he had £5M paid into his account without comment but when I wanted to give my son £5,000 to help buy a house I had to jump through hoops. They originally wanted 6 years of bank statements to check for money laundering. They eventually settled for 1 year of statements. Why?

shonawalker2003.bsky.social4

I'll bet he's worried about a Guardian journalist being there...and not for any illegitimate reason he's implying, just because he hates scrutiny so much. How does he think it will go if he ever becomes PM? Although, I'm sure he'd love to use the Trump playbook to cow the media into silence.

Sonnet4

I don't think Farage cares if he gets sanctioned or not. In fact it might even be deliberate and he'd welcome it as it will add to his notoriety as well as play to his persecution complex, grievance politics/grifting.

Cleetus Fandango3

Most companies you can only accept a max of £50.00, it is then seen as bribery. £5m+1 isnt a "gift" Farage took it and hid it. Whoever is investigating this will have to conclude. Apology or Ban is not sufficient . Criminal,Spying,Corruption, Suspension, Jail? #farage5m #reform #boris

slappingkarma.bsky.social3

What is absolutely not normal is, is UK media news blanket whitewash of Farage and ReformUK situation and policies. Again not normal is voters voting for ReformUK. Looking at my last form class of 36 classmates, potentially 9 of them are ReformUK voters. That to me is gobsmacking!

Stuart Hemingway3

Going back to January he was out defending his non disclosure of his finances to the standards commission as an administrative error by his *team*. He needs to start using his gifted money to pay for a more competent team…

Sally Witcher3

Payment is the usual word when an individual gives you money after you've done a thing they wanted. If they asked you to do it, said they'd pay you if you did, its either a wage, a salary or a bribe. Call it what you like it has no place in a democracy & it will destroy it if it becomes acceptable.

Jus 🇮🇪 🇪🇺 🚜 🌲2

He needs to slapped down...hard.

John 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🔴👹2

He’s right to think it though. Certainly he’s been treated that way by the media

walkingpete.bsky.social2

And instead of highlighting this UK Labour are highlighting their own dirty laundry while Farage laughs at them from his privately chartered helicopter…

Harry2

Of course he doesn’t think the normal rules apply to him. That’s why the whole “good chaps” thing is deader than a dodo. Anyone trying to deal with him needs to treat him accordingly, as a liar and a cheat.

Amy L Crow 🐦‍⬛2

Bet it wasn’t located in Clacton.

Bette Lynch2

It appears the rules didn’t apply to him in his schooldays either so it’s a lifelong pattern of extreme arrogance and entitlement.

ralphfarrugia.bsky.social2

That's the definition of a bonus. Taxable income. Surely that should generate some curiosity about evading tax and about the assets he's procured with untaxed income?

alisoncitrine.bsky.social2

He is a special case, just not for clapping, more for investigating

Farage says £5m gift was a reward for Brexit campaigning. Billionaire living in Thailand bought Brexit. Previously, Farage said £5m was for his security. What next? After receiving £5m, Farage bought £1.4m property in cash, one of the four he owns through a company. Partner has another one.

BREAKING: Reform UK leader Nigel Farage bought £1.4m house in cash shortly after receiving £5m personal gift from crypto-billionaire Christopher Harborne. Reform says the "offer and process" of buying the property commenced before gift. Intriguing story by @alifortescuenews.bsky.social

Roland Smith44

This sounds like a different one to the £885k house bought by his girlfriend?

Martin Beddall17

Can they prove that? Money laundering rules mean you need to show where money has come from when buying a property.

John Howell15

Presumably you will be hounding Farage in the same way other non Reform politicians have been by the press - or will you bottle it yet again when it is the man of the people? The grifter needs to be taken down once and for all.

PastaPete11

Possible or alleged corruption and money laundering have to be investigated surely.

Eddie Dolan11

This stinks to high heaven.

Mark7

Would love to know what Harborne is getting in return for his very generous "gifts"

Please keep going after F*rage. He is a cocky sod and as slippery as an eel, but the brown stuff is finally hitting the whirly thing, which can only be for the good of British politics.

Virginia5

www.independent.co.uk/bulletin/new... so was he lying when he said he bought it originally? …of when he said his girlfriend bought it ?.. or is he lying now ?

Bernie Twomey4

He knew he was about to get the money.

Basil3

Top Tip....Never trust anything that Reform say. Lying is the only way they can win. Always question their actions and publish online any provable shit they do. Especially the racism shit.

Diane Messias3

But why buy a house in Clacton - especially when he's been so rude about the place?!

Susanmcgoldrick3

Keep digging, Pippa. I'm sure their is more to this than meets the eye.

RPMR3

who among us have not offered cash on a house then had a phone around to ask for the money?

JustMe3

He can afford £1.4m in cash but needs a 'gift' to pay for personal security that doesn't cover surgeries in Clacton?? And he is a man of the people, what a load of 💩

Clive2

Reform will keep changing the story

Jon Gershon2

I think you mean. The "offer and process" of buying the property commenced before GRIFT and not gift

ian1045.bsky.social2
