DHS watchdog audits Kristi Noem's warehouse detention program

politicsMay 13, 202612157

The Department of Homeland Security inspector general opened an audit of the $38 billion ICE warehouse-to-detention acquisitions tied to Kristi Noem. The review will examine ICE's acquisition of detention space, including at least $1 billion spent on nine commercial warehouses intended to hold up to 8,000 people. The initiative was championed by Kristi Noem and adviser Corey Lewandowski, and the audit will assess whether taxpayer funds were properly used and could reshape future DHS detention contracting.
