NEW: Pope Leo XIV has named one of the Spanish-speaking parish priests at the center of D.C.’s ICE crackdown — three miles from the White House — as the next bishop of a Florida diocese in deep Trump country. Father Emilio Biosca has lost more than 40 parishioners to ICE detention and deportation.

Pope Leo has named Rev. Emilio Biosca Agüero, O.F.M. Cap, as Bishop of Venice, Florida. The new Bishop has been pastor of the Shrine of the Sacred Heart in DC; in August of last year, ICE targeted the Shrine in DC, and detained 7 parishioners.
