Art Fight revised its rules to restrict tracing and the use of reference material, including explicit limits on tracing 3D models and directly copying reference images. Several long-time participants and some event organizers announced they will skip this year, saying moderators lack the expertise and the policy will foster unwarranted suspicion and hostility. Organizers presented the change as protecting originality and fairness, but critics argue the rule misunderstands common art practices and will punish artists WHO study or build from references. Because many creators use references or 3D models for anatomy, backgrounds, and animation, the rule could reduce participation and push the event toward purely freehand or stylized work.
I generally don't trace ref for my own personal reasons, but I still *use* ref. and I still make my own. it's cracking me up that the art fight rules state you can't even use your own bases which means the model I made of maia, from scratch, even--from a primitive sphere! would be against the rules
Bleak⋆Squeak33the art fight rules are so funny because it's like, 2000s DeviantART thinking. One step away from saying you can't use digital because there's an undo button kind of thinking. Actually kind of surprised they didn't say you can't use ref at all because it's cheating unless you pull from the aether.

Pitchblackdragon2I think the base rule is not as much as making bases and more a "Don't make a base and use it for every attack you do" kinda thing because people do that to farm points. And in a game that's about gifting art, going the quantity over quality route is kinda against the games spirit. So I get it.

Damn, every year Art Fight has some type of fucked up issue. Between the owner issue, not paying people who work for them, lack of listening to workers and the community. What I have seen playing blind on bullying...just so much. And now new rules that suck? Just yikes.

The recent Art Fight rules makes me sigh so much, bruh💀 Tracing over poseable 3D models & pictures to gain time is so... normal? Especially to work faster? Making these artworks ineligible sure is a choice™️ (That being said, I never did Art Fight. Dunno if it was already the case the other years?)
✨Lou🖤🤍💜7I've always kinda disliked the "fight/attack" etymology of this challenge, when it comes to trading artworks. I dunno, there's something violent behind those words that just doesn't fit how I picture art sharing. That's why I rather do art trades and collabs with people I know instead.
Saskia 🌿6And the thing is, posing a 3D model takes time and skill. Taking a photograph takes time and skill. Adjusting the camera/composition takes time and skill. Creating 3D assets takes time and skill. Knowing how to interpret and adjust features in the drawing phase takes time and skill.
