U.S. Africa Command announced that the remains of one U.S. Army soldier who went missing during the African Lion 26 training exercise off Morocco's Atlantic coast have been recovered. Two soldiers disappeared after one fell into the water and fellow service members jumped in to try to rescue them; the search for the second missing soldier remains ongoing. The U.S. military has not released names, investigators and search teams remain on scene, and the recovery underscores the dangers of amphibious training and will factor into safety reviews.
