Péter Magyar sworn in as Hungary's prime minister

Péter Magyar was sworn in as Hungary’s prime minister at Parliament in Budapest, formally ending Viktor Orbán’s 16-year premiership. Parliament was inaugurated and then voted to elect Magyar after he laid a wreath at the Attila József statue before the ceremony. Magyar pledged to tackle corruption, restore democratic institutions and steer Hungary back toward closer alignment with the European Union. The transition matters because it signals a possible reversal of Orbán’s nationalist, EU-skeptical policies and could reshape Hungary’s role in European politics and rule-of-law oversight.
