New York state approved an agreement that bars U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and other law enforcement officers from wearing masks while on duty. The deal allows exceptions for operational safety and also prohibits state and local officials from formally cooperating with ICE. Governor Kathy Hochul framed the action after former acting ICE director Tom Homan vowed to 'flood' New York with agents, saying 'I don't take well to threats.' The measure aims to increase transparency, limit federal immigration enforcement tactics inside New York, and protect immigrant communities while potentially complicating ICE operations.

Very helpful! All state and federal officials, including ICE agents, will be prohibited from wearing masks on duty, unless there is a safety need. This week Tom Homan vowed to 'flood' New York with ICE agents. Gov. Hochul: “I don’t take well to threats.” [Me: I think he pushed her over the edge.]
