Actress sues James Cameron over alleged Avatar likeness use

Q'orianka Kilcher sued James Cameron and The Walt Disney Company, accusing them of using her facial features without permission to design Neytiri in the Avatar films. Her complaint says Cameron first noticed Kilcher in an advertisement for Terrence Malick's 2005 film The New World, identified her by name, and pointed to her lower-face features as the basis for Neytiri's look. Kilcher, WHO made her acting debut at 14 as Pocahontas in The New World and has continued acting, is seeking damages for the alleged unauthorized use of her biometric facial features and profits from the Avatar franchise. The case could set legal precedent over using real people's biometric features in character design and affect how studios create, credit, and compensate for likenesses.
