New Planet of the Apes movie set, Matt Shakman to direct
Matt Shakman will direct a new Planet of the Apes film for 20th Century, with Josh Friedman writing the screenplay. Shakman most recently directed Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Friedman served as a co-writer on that project before signing on to pen this original Apes installment. 20th Century says the movie is an original, standalone entry rather than a direct sequel to 2024's Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. This pairing gives the studio a chance to reset the franchise's creative direction with a director experienced in large-scale tentpoles.
A new ‘PLANET OF THE APES’ movie is in the works. • Matt Shakman (‘The Fantastic Four’) is set to direct • It will not be a continuation of ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ (Source: Deadline)
Feels like a mistake to not continue with Kingdom. I thought they had a good setup for the next adventure with that ending.
I don’t really see the point of not making it a sequel.
Kingdom literally set up the next stage of events, not a continuation my ass
That’s odd. Kingdom was actually surprisingly good and could not have been more clear about its continuation setup.
I wish it was a sequel to Kingdom.
Hey so please make it a sequel instead
Why the fuck would you not continue the story? This is set in the same continuity right?
New 'Planet of the Apes' film is officially in the works • Matt Shakman is directing • Will be a new original story • It's reportedly not a continuation of the last film (via Deadline)
I believe there is a point at which an original IP can become exhausted with endless retellings. Except Planet of the Apes. They could make a million of these things and I would watch them all.
The last POTA film was good. Why not continue the story?
Fucking Pissed We're not continuing 'Kingdom', but I have Hopes It'll be Good since Matt Shakman is doing It
Ugh, I just wanted to see what they were staring at through the telescope 😩
