On National Teacher Appreciation Day, the U.S. Senate's 2027 budget proposal allocates $150 million for teacher bonuses. Greencastle second-grade teacher Estelle Moore of Silver Spring received honors from national, state and local teacher unions during local observances. DonorsChoose ran a match day doubling donations for classroom campaigns, supporting projects like Mrs. Rodriguez's Hands-On STEAM request for a 25-plus activities set, a 40-experiment physics kit, batteries, a vacuum and snacks. The Senate allocation, if enacted, would deliver one-time bonuses aimed at boosting teacher morale and retention while matched crowdfunding immediately funds classroom supplies and experiences.

For #teacherappreciationday, here's an entry from Groton, MA, 1811. Back then they auctioned off the contract to feed the district teacher. The winner said he could do it for 73 cents/week. Makes me hungry just thinking about it.
