The idiotic ploy that this is part of a separate war and doesn’t restart the War Powers Act clock…which, by the way, never stopped…is classic Trump-Hegseth b.s.

The Acting AG and others in the administration are performing a type of sanewashing (law-washing?) whereby they translate Trump's statements about the US still being at war with Iran, the blockade being piracy, and the War Powers Resolution being unconstitutional into statutory WPR arguments.

The War Powers Act has never been legally tested, and that is what we need. Until the Constitution is amended, it is at odds with the clear letter of the Constitution that a declaration is necessary before war. Congress has been a lazy check on executive power for decades & we’re paying for it.
