Keir Starmer suggests banning some pro-Palestine protests

politicsMay 2, 2026391,373

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said chants such as 'globalise the Intifada' should be 'completely off limits' and suggested the government could ban some pro-Palestine marches. He said those slogans cross into incitement and argued authorities may need to stop protests that threaten public safety or stoke antisemitism. The comments come as pro-Palestine demonstrations have spread across UK cities during the Israel-Hamas war, prompting government concern about rising antisemitic incidents. A move to ban marches would limit public protest and force courts and police to draw new lines between political expression and preventing violence.

"In response to Sir Keir's interview with Today, Green Party leader Zack Polanski said the prime minister was "using the pain and fear of Jewish people to threaten further authoritarian restrictions on peaceful protest". www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Wonder if he’ll be banning Tiny Tommy’s neofascist march? bsky.app/profile/irla...

So a guy with mental health issues attacks his friend and 2 strangers and therefore peace marches have to be stopped - clutching at straws Starmer.

BethU26

Perhaps if Labour had offered better mental health services the 3 people attacked could have been prevented. Perhaps if the Met Police had reacted quicker to the first attack, on a Muslim man, the 2 following attacks would have been prevented. Perhaps Labour and Met have a different agenda.

Nice to see that starmer fully embracing the black shirt look on life not just in policy.

Sol-less23

Well Keir. The most effective way to reduce protesting is a swift response to crises, maintaining an overall effective government and generally not being an unpleasant swine. But I guess being an authoritarian blowfish bite is more your style.

Tony22

Did you know, Keir Starmer expelled more Jewish Labour Party members than all of Labour's previous leaders combined?!

Weird how nobody has mentioned the third man who was stabbed by this monster. Maybe it’s because he’s Muslim? www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

Someone please ask Starmer why if Labour believes that the Jewish community shouldn't be intrinsically tied to the actions of the Israeli government then why does he feel that protesting the Israeli government puts the Jewish community at risk....?

evo1963.bsky.social12

Absolutely spot on. It’s vile how Starmer is using this horrible attack to score points and further his agenda.

Pollik10

Starmer is a slimy toad.

knilloc.bsky.social10

Labour backhandedly encourages antisemitic attacks, then cynically use it to protect terrorists overseas. meanwhile, reform exists, but they don't have any problem with them.

Incoming: 🥾 Labour standing on the wrong side of history, yet again. 🚨 Arrests on the streets of Jewish protestors (e.g. @naamoduk.bsky.social) and those who stand shoulder to shoulder with both the Palestinian and Jewish communities in unity: for an equitable and just peace for all. 🇵🇸🕊️🇮🇱

Starmer is playing the antisemitism card to advance his Zionist, neoliberal, authoritarian agenda again. Just like Zionists have always done.

Theyre rolling out the smear campaign because they fear you and what you represent; a meaningful challenge to the power and privilege of the ruling class coupled with an embracing of the green revolution that they hate. Wear it as a badge of honour mate.

At heart, that's all Starmer is. No empathy, just a sadistic authoritarian clutching at every excuse to silence the voices of those who inconvenience his donors.

And the Orange Order marching season is upon us.

They're terrified of us and the only thing they've got is what worked the last time a leftwing party threatened the status quo. But people are wise to it now, and it won't work. Keep on speaking out for all of us. #VoteGreen on Thursday.

The narrative of this week’s tragedy is being twisted to push through more punitive measures under pressure from the current Israel administration and hard line Zionists Where’s mention of the third, Muslim, victim ?

Purple Electric5

Yep. Keep talking about the policies they don’t want people thinking about.

PhilT6024

Dear Mr Starmer, you saw how effective your Proscription of Palestine Action has been?! Do you really think that banning protests is going to make those angry about what is happening in Gaza & Lebanon go home & put their feet up?! You will just accelerate protests!!

ChayBristol3

Starmer has just been waiting for something he can twist to 'justify' smashing protest. Specifically, protest against the genocide he is complicit in. That the stabbing of two Jewish and one Muslim man by someone with mental illness has nothing to do with those protests doesn't bother him.

Ian Burton3

They are scared and are getting the establishment to smear the Greens. You are the only ones that are stopping a right wing/corporate takeover of the country.

I hate that youve been dragged raising a genuine concern many of us have. I despise the small eyed, empty Debenhams briefcase that is Starmer. Your actions during this woeful smearing effort have been exemplary. #VoteGreen 💚💚💚💚
