The Onion’s Infowars takeover plans stalled by new court fights
The Onion's planned purchase of Alex Jones' Infowars and conversion of its websites into explicit parody sites is stalled after judges issued emergency rulings and new legal challenges surfaced. Those emergency rulings have paused the transfer process and left control of Infowars' domains and content unresolved. The delay matters because repurposing Infowars would remove a major misinformation outlet and set a precedent for courts seizing and converting assets tied to judgment-backed liabilities.
NEW: A plan by The Onion to take over Infowars is once again in jeopardy after a ruling in a Texas appeals court late yesterday. That ruling was first reported by @benmullin.bsky.social. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
Yet another court hearing in a different Texas court was already set to happen this afternoon; The Onion hoped the judge would approve their takeover agreement. Now it's not clear what will happen, but either way it's quite likely Infowars will go dark today, because no one is paying the bills.
Where is bankrupt Alex Jones getting alll this money from to fight this? 🤔
Image if the state of Texas worked as hard to protect kids who are victims of domestic violence as much as they do to protect Alex fucken Jones.
At this point, it feels like the courts are in on messing with anyone that isn't right leaning getting control of Infowars. Judges have political leanings too. The onion should have waited until they had the bag. They just made a target of themselves by announcing early.
I wanna see him cry again and again and again and again...
It feels more and more that Jones will find some way to weasel out of paying these families. It feels like an abuse of the legal system the way he’s been able to keep delaying things.
Once upon a time, venal and talentless hacks would stand on street corners shouting their inadequacies into the void. Now they are platformed, enriched, emboldened, and replicated.
This government is so ass
