Zach Cregger's Resident Evil, teaser trailer and set details

moviesApr 30, 2026402,098

Zach Cregger released the first teaser for his Resident Evil film, which opens in theaters September 18. Cregger says the movie is set during the Raccoon City outbreak and the production built huge practical zombie puppets, with some monsters constructed to weigh roughly one ton. Reporters WHO visited the set found video game Easter eggs and a new, story-driven approach that diverges from previous adaptations to emphasize grounded survival-horror through practical effects.

Litterally every negative comment under this post is people complaining this trailer isn’t all easter eggs and things they recognize lol

Why is Baron Harkkonen in that tunnel 😭

Max Monocled Metroid31

The fact that he's going out of his way to pick up a key in a weird place makes this infinitely more like Resident Evil than any of earlier live action films.

Going by the trailer it looks good. IMO I like that fact this isn’t really trying to be a “greatest hits” for die hard RE like the previous films. Seems like it’s a RE film that’s gonna focus on telling a solid original story.

Why is this movie trying to be a good movie instead of an uninteractive video game 😠

SegwaySwanker8

...OK, maybe this won't suck. Anyone who's miffed about it not being faithful to the source material, remember what the source material's writing is like and ask yourselves if you'd really watch a non-interactive movie like that.

EChrist Onthecrosstopherson4

Why not just call it something else? Didn’t remind me of RE in the least.

Harry Pujols4

Name everything Resident Evil now.

The disappointing thing about this trailer is that if Zach just made this an original IP I actually would've given this a chance. I liked Weapons. Thought it was a good film. Instead he's no better than any other director given someone else's toy & remake into something completely different.

Since Barbarian and Weapons were excellent, I am sure Cregger will do well with this.

People freaking out as if RE7, the best of the revival era, wasn’t also an unrelated story with a cameo at the end

I want Milla back 😊

Meaghan Keating3

I’m so glad they’re holding back on showing a lot of the zombies and other BOW’s for now at least until it’s closer to release because it means that they might actually have something good to show soon I have a good feeling about it

Some of y'all telling on yourselves as not playing any of the games from the past 10 years. This trailer captures Resident Evil 7 - 9's vibe pretty well. I'm not saying this is Oscar gold or anything but give it chance.

Sebastian Fawkes16

This already looks Infinity Times Better than the Paul WS Anderson Movies and Netflix Show. I'm In.

Coestar13

I guess the name was available?

Electrichead (The Agony)10

I think a lot of you don't actually play Resident Evil.

Chantytown7

Looks like we’re getting the Ethan era. I’m down

shadowsofcoruscant.bsky.social6

Doesn’t look like Resident Evil to me.

Joe’s O’s4

I think if anyone can make a scary RE movie, Zach Cregger can. Barbarian was halfway there.

Michael Ray Williams4

This shit looks fire. Fuck them Mila Jovovich movies(except the 1st one).

horrorparlor.bsky.social4

They mixing a little RE:VII in there?

Rivyn Daniel3

Resident Evil in name only No thanks

Harry Pujols3

Well, the director's consistent. Barbarian: No about barbarians. Weapons: Not about weapons.

Saturdaymorningproj2

For now it's certainly hard to see any RE-related things really, but honestly? It doesn't bother me. It looks intriguing, and when was the last time we could say that about trailer for a live-action RE movie? Make a good movie first, every reference etc. is secondary at most.

MysteriousGray2

This looks more or less like the first few minutes of Resident Evil 2 but as a whole movie. Or Resident Evil 3 without Nemesis in it. I think it’s a daring choice to not center this on anybody familiar from the franchise, and it’s a choice I respect.
