Israeli navy intercepts Global Sumud Gaza aid flotilla near Crete

newsApr 30, 202635571

The Israeli navy intercepted the Gaza-bound Global Sumud flotilla in international waters off Crete, detaining more than 170 activists from multiple countries. Israeli forces boarded dozens of civilian vessels, including boats carrying Australians, and the Italian legal team said 24 of those arrested are Italian out of 57 Italians WHO took part in the mission. The operation took place far from Gaza’s coast and involved at least 22 boats that were part of the convoy. The interception has immediate humanitarian and legal implications for efforts to deliver aid to Gaza and has prompted sharp international criticism, including the UN special rapporteur calling it "Apartheid without borders."
