Super Mario Galaxy 2 gets surprise Switch update with new epilogue

Super Mario Galaxy 2 received a surprise Switch update 1.4.0 that adds a Storybook epilogue, a new orchestral arrangement called "Journey", and fixes lighting, bloom, and several textures. Players unlock the new epilogue by clearing any galaxy and earning a Power Star, and the storybook cover now changes from brown to white once the final chapter is available. Creators are turning the epilogue into illustrated spreads, short animatics, voiceover readings, and music covers, with much of the work centering on Rosalina, young and adult Rosalina side-by-side, and the updated rendition of the song "Family". Others are publishing technical breakdowns of the layout data that controls the book cover and cosplay and edits that reframe the epilogue alongside Galaxy's climactic scenes.

Super Mario Sunshine contains a mysterious Threefold Unobtainable Water Bottle during the Mecha-Bowser battle that is protected from being obtained by three successively insurmountable protections for an unknown reason.

1. It's on the wrong side of the rollercoaster so Mario never touches it while riding it
2. It disappears after the battle is over so it cannot be collected afterwards
3. Even if the game is hacked to let Mario move around freely while the bottle is loaded, it has no collision so it cannot be picked up

it's been technically incomplete for a while, unfortunately. The physical book only covered the original Rosalina's Storybook from the Wii release. Switch release added a new epilogue to Galaxy 1's, then added a whole new storybook to Galaxy 2. Now this update adds a new epilogue to THAT. lol.

Upon unlocking the final chapter of the storybook in the 1.4.0 update of Super Mario Galaxy 2, the book's cover turns from brown to white.
