fllics.comJerome Powell will remain on Fed Board as governor after term ends
Jerome Powell announced in Washington that he will remain on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors after his term as chair ends, saying he will serve as a governor "for a period of time to be determined." Powell said he will adopt a "low profile" role and cited lingering legal threats to the Fed and what he called former President Donald Trump's criticism as "unprecedented" in explaining his decision. Powell made the announcement after the Federal Open Market Committee left interest rates unchanged, providing leadership continuity as inflation and legal challenges continue to shape U.S. monetary policy.
BREAKING: Jerome Powell says he'll remain on the Fed board as a governor — at least until the resolution of legal challenges Trump has mounted against the central bank. Powell's term allows him to remain at the Fed until 2028, but for decades, chairs have left when their successor is installed.
For decades the sitting president wasn't a threat to the FED...
If I were Powell, I would hire a food-taster, full-time security, and I would turn my mobile phone off. Forever.
Powell has more love of country then trump or anyone supporting his traitorous behavior
Worth noting the other Fed Chair who broke this norm was Marriner Eccles in the 40s, who stuck around as Governor after his term as Chair ended because he felt he needed to help protect the Fed from attacks against it's independence. The past doesn't always repeat, but it frequently rhymes.
Republicans have thrown tradition to the wind. Hope he stays until 2028.
Agree or disagree with his policies, he‘s truly doing what he believes to be the right thing. If it wasn’t for Trump’s lies and destructive actions involving the Federal Reserve Powell could have enjoyed his retirement. Now he’s staying to defend the Fed.
Hopefully he holds his ground and doesn’t cave to trump on this
Powell has given the U.S. a great gift by remaining a governor -- a voice for fiscal sanity. Powell is an important ally of democracy, but we all have a part to play if we want to keep it.
It’s wonderful to see someone fighting back!
I was hoping he stayed
Thank you, Jerome Powell. A true American hero standing up to the foul, treasonous Trump.
In all those decades, was THEIR Central Bank in the middle of fighting such ridiculous legal challenges?
It will annoy Cheeto; for that alone, this is a good thing. And there are *many* reasons to like this.
How many chairs had president pressure by a bully like Trump
Powell has done an amazing job, even under immense duress! That's a sign that he might actually love his work! Still, I hope he realizes how much we all appreciate him staying on until 2028!
For decades the serving President wasn't trying to take operational control of the Federal Reserve. This is the right move after they dropped but didn't drop their investigation.
So hoping he can help stave off hyperinflation.
* Powell Says He Will Stay On as Fed Governor After His Term as Chair Ends @nytimes.com @colbylsmith.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/live/2026/04...
Glad to hear, he’s the Fauci of Finance
I have deep respect for this man…
The Fat One's gonna rage tweet about this very soon
If only more in Congress had Powells backbone. And he's a Trump appointee
POWELL for the win!.. #littlepinky meet #middlefinger
Sen. Kevin Cramer on Powell: "It would be unusual for a Fed Chair to remain on as a governor of the FOMC. Also, it's a good time for him to cash in, if you will, on his experience and his rolodex and his notoriety. He's certainly earned that opportunity. I would hope he would not stay on."
Because after you've been a public servant, it's only natural to cash in, right?
How dare anyone from the Republican Party say ANYTHING about spending too much. $2B a day for a war of choice. WTF. They are so arrogant
Quiet part out loud (again)…
Of course these people would assume That cashing in is all anyone in this world cares about 💰💰💰💰
Normally it would be unusual, but it’s not required by law and you pushed him. He probably would have left if not for all the criminal indictment bs so if I was him I’d stick around too as a not so subtle fuck you.
Trump is spending $1 trillion every 150 days Taxes bring in $5 trillion Hes spent that in less than 1 year. Supoosed to last 4 years.
Wow. Very Republican attitude. Give up public service and cash in your experience. They just do not understand honorable people.
Jerome Powell certainly seems like a money grubbing opportunist just ready to “cash in,” doesn’t he? 🙄
STFU It is not unusual for a Fed Chair to remain on as a governor of the FOMC after their chair term ends. The Fed Chair is always a member of the Board of Governors, with a separate 14-year term that outlasts the four-year chair appointment.
Rolodex is right up there with rotary phone.
He needs to stay on. And he knows it.
"He should be corrupt as the rest of us. I don't understand why he won't cash in, if you will."
This confirms what politicians do. They encourage each other to cash in and screw the American working class.
This seems like saying this publicly would make him less likely to do that
It's always about the money for them, not public service
While GOP is focused on vendetta's and grievances, let us all focus on early voting for primaries. Georgia - you are up. Not only primaries, but Supreme Court elections and circuit court elections. VOTE!
How can someone so completely unserious get elected to the Senate?
Gee....I feel the same way about you Senator Kevin Cramer.
There are certain people who believe that “public service” means “appearing in a public role in service of enriching one’s self.” Those folks should be booted from office. I’d start with Sen. Cramer.
Look around you, my guy. Usual left a long time ago
Yet more ways for complicit r’s to screw up the economy.
Service for its own sake is a foreign concept to Republicans.
I guess he doesn't know anything about this guy: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marrine...
I would stay, just to be a dick.
"It would be unusual for a president to incite a violent riot. Also, it's a good time for him to cash in, if you will, on his fraud, his greed and his opprobrium. He's certainly earned that opportunity. I would hope he would not stay on."
Right after they stick American taxpayers with the bill for a ballroom no one but Trump wanted.
“Cash in” , everything is a fucking grift with these people. (Republicans)
Rolodex???? How old is this dude?
Jerome Powell is 73 years old and worth tens of millions of dollars
So he's young enough for at least one term as POTUS?
Remember when we had a president who went out of his way to not insult anyone?
I wonder who appointed him
Jerome seems to be a man meeting the moment
