Jamie Raskin rebukes Dana Bash over blaming Democrats for WHCD attack

politicsApr 26, 20261012,781

On CNN's State of the Union, host Dana Bash asked whether Democratic "heated rhetoric" helped fuel the White House Correspondents' Dinner attacker, prompting Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) to sharply reject that framing. Raskin pushed back forcefully, saying Democrats should not be blamed without evidence and noting officials have not confirmed a motive while Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told Bash the suspect is not cooperating with investigators. The exchange matters because it shapes whether political rhetoric is treated as a cause in coverage of political violence and leaves motive unresolved as investigators continue their probe.

I hate Dana Bash's suggestion that nonviolent "heated rhetoric" is somehow responsible for violence. Heated rhetoric is free speech. The Declaration of Independence was heated rhetoric.

Attacking Jamie Raskin instead of everyone in the Trump Administration. Nice sucking up to your bosses Dana

Robert Loerzel8

And how much of the criticism against the Trump administration actually qualifies even as "heated rhetoric"? Defining that is slippery, of course.

Bathsheba in Blue4

Did she ever ask if Melissa Hortman and John Hoffman and spouses were shot bc of Trump’s rhetoric ?? How abt Paul Pelosi being held captive and beaten? If she’s not out there routinely reporting on Trump / MAGA’s lies and extreme rhetoric (she’s not), she needs to STFU.

Trump threatened to end a civilization.

One of the stupidest questions ever asked on CNN. How is the "journalism" so bad ? It's almost like the goal is to obfuscate rather than reveal.

Julie Hotard Ph.D., writer, effects of disinfo on social systems2

MAGA & its supporters in media follow the timeless propaganda rule "Accuse your enemy of that of which you are guilty." So the party of Jan. 6th falsely accuses their opponent party of inciting violence.

Staged attack on Free Press. Evil King - acting the victim - again. No one buying it.

Sam Morey2

“Xxxx is terrible for the country” is boilerplate political criticism here. She couldn’t even put her finger on anything actually provocative and just covers this up with “So on and so forth.”

Just plain fact Dana. I believe if you open your ears, you will find that Commander Cheeto is the epitome of nasty, disgusting heated rhetoric.

This is cringe-worthy stuff from Dana Bash. She oughta be embarrassed...Rep. Raskin straight up asked her for receipts and she had nothing.

Has she listened to this administration?

How about Republicans saying the Democrats are the enemy…

Example 843 of why I never watch Dana Bash. She’s a shill.

Patrice 🇺🇦7

What the hell is wrong with her?

If she was capable of being embarrassed it would indicate a level of intellect she rarely displays. Honestly, I have no idea how she can be so unaware of how she frames things.

Janice Dow Mendelson6

she's trying to keep her job since the far right is taking over CNN in addition to everything else. When democrats are shot at or killed or protesters are shot at and killed, does she grill the hateful far right about their rhetoric

“This is cringe-worthy stuff from Dana Bash.” Evergreen.

jjfetting3

Dana obviously does not think Trump calling women reporters "piggy" or "low IQ" is heated. She needs to explain her excusing that type of behavior.

It’s really pathetic what CNN has become. They were already being pushed to the right during Biden‘s administration, but over the past couple of years it’s essentially Fox News Lite. You might as well watch NewsNation at that point.

"This press", including Bash and CNN, is not a watchdog; they are lapdogs.

j1mmys.bsky.social2

I never say this, but I will now, what a dumb bitch bash is.

Aleksa Milićević2

Once a Republican shill, always a Republican shill.

Dana Bash's question to Rep Raskin is only one example of how tone deaf the legacy press has become relative to the damage sustained throughout the US and abroad caused by Trump's bad policies and imbecilic leadership approach. Any pushback Trump et al gets has been earned in spades.

Bob Schnell2

"Democratic right"?????? Constitutional right!!!!! First Amendment! (Dana Bash makes how much money?)
