It's Alien Day, which makes me want to reiterate: ALIEN 3 is great actually, & a moving end to the trilogy. Ripley as a deep space saint, radicalizing a group of cis male prisoners (led by a repenting rapist) into protecting a woman's right to abort a fetus born of rape from corpofascists.

What a film. No hand holding - completely upended expectations. I love how on that planet full of violent men - the men are almost besides the point. She gets to have agency, after all that violence done to her. The tragic, dignified closure was always for her, not the audience.

Archie Goodwin and Walt Simonson's ALIEN: THE ILLUSTRATED STORY (1979) might just be the greatest comic book adaptation of all time. And the closest I'd get to seeing the film when I was 9. Happy #alienday!
