CDC cancels publication of study on COVID vaccine effectiveness

scienceApr 23, 202617338

The acting CDC chief blocked publication of a peer-reviewed CDC study that found COVID-19 vaccines reduced emergency room visits and hospitalizations by about 55 percent this past winter. Agency scientists had peer-reviewed and cleared the paper for publication, but Health and Human Services officials halted release, citing methodological concerns. The hold prevents a peer-reviewed finding of substantial vaccine benefit from reaching clinicians and the public ahead of the next respiratory virus season.
