Oil prices jump as Strait of Hormuz stays closed and ceasefire talks stall

financeApr 23, 20261825

Brent crude briefly topped $105 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate reached about $96.73 as oil surged on Thursday. Iran kept the Strait of Hormuz closed to commercial shipping after ceasefire extension talks between Israel, the United States, and Iran stalled. The intraday jump was roughly 4 percent, lifting prices more than 15 percent since a temporary ceasefire was declared two weeks ago. Analysts warn that continued closure could tighten global supply and push Brent toward the $110 per barrel level.
