Blue Sky Art Show, theme 'Openings'

Blue Sky Art ShowApr 4, 202644825,864

A slit of light through Lower Antelope Canyon framed openings as carved passageways and inward journeys. Others treated openings as constructed portals, exemplified by the Louvre in Paris, or as small beginnings, captured in a magnolia bud macro that was poised to unfurl.

is a theme made for slot canyon photography. This is from our November trip to Lower Antelope Canyon in Page, Utah.

The sun coming up over the Thompson River, in the Interior of British Columbia. The sky is bright orange with several clouds, and there are snow covered mountains and trees in the distance.

Here is a macro nature photo I took of a pink-purple lilac cluster with two buds at the mid-upper-left starting to open. Between their four curled petals is a magenta x-shape of brightness. The background is a green bokeh of leaves. Light through the blossoms delicately whispers, "Hi, I'm warm and soft, my sweet perfume will soothe your heavy heart." Happy National Poetry Month! My latest haiku is dedicated to new beginnings: guardians at the gate lilac's scent swings open

A vveiw through woodland of bluebells being awakened by the morning sun. Light passing through the trunks of two trees creating what appears to be a portal into another world.

Black-and-white image of a quiet street in Old Lyon at night. A soft ribbon of light stretches along the cobblestones, leading into the distance beneath glowing lamps. Tall stone buildings fade into shadow on either side, and the empty street feels still, as if the city is holding its breath.

The image shows the inside of a cave carved out by the ocean waves. There are three openings: one straight ahead which goes out to the open sea, one to the left that goes to the beach and tide pools, and one above that goes to the top of the rock bluff. The rocks on the floor are covered with pink slime while the rocks above are illuminated with golden sunlight. This is at Coon Creek Beach inside Montana De Oro State Park, Los Osos, California. You can only access this cave at low tide, and when they have this section of the park open.

A rocky landscape of cliffs, towers and gullies opens is seen through the Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park in Utah. The sky has a dull, smoky tint, due to the wildfires in distant California. Despite the ground being dry and almost fully devoid of vegetation, the landscape appears very colorful, with different shades of brown, orange and yellow, and distant bushes in light green. The view recedes into the distance for several miles.

A view of the sky, captured between a row of stelae. A dark stele stands at each of the four corners of the image, so that the opening to the sky forms a cross.

Photo of Garden of the Gods in Colorado. Looking out from a cathedral window shaped opening to 2 large rocks with another opening and mountains in the background. The walls of the foreground rocks show several sedimentary layers of different shades of red/orange and various textures

A massive wall of orange, red and brown bands of sandstone rises from the river canyon floor from the right to the left. There is a dirt ranch road at its foot on the left. The wall is punctured at its left end by a squarish hole, through which you can see a bit of the bright blue sky. The wall is footed by piles of red eroded sandstone. A few bare shrubs line the bottom of the scree. You can see dark green junipers at the top outlined against the sky. This is red rock country at its best, contrasty and ancient, with a sense of imminent decay and everlasting solidity.

A photo inside of Manchester Cathedral a couple of weeks ago. On the left is an elaborate carved stone archway with a beautifully carved arched wooden door. The open door leads to a small room. In front of the door are three stone steps that lead down to the main part of the cathedral. Light from the room is shining through creating shadows to fall onto the steps below
