Elfyn Evans clinched the 2026 World Rally Championship at Rally Italia Sardegna after team-mate Oliver Solberg crashed near the finish of the final stage, handing Evans the title. Evans sealed the victory by winning the Wolf Power Stage, and co-driver Scott Martin joined him in celebration. The crash came in the decisive, winner-take-all run for the title with only a few corners to go, ending Solberg's challenge. The BBC described Evans as the United Kingdom's first World Rally Champion in 25 years, placing him alongside Colin McRae and Richard Burns in the record books. The result closes a dramatic season finale and sets the WRC calendar to resume with Rally Monte Carlo next year, which BBC Sport will cover.
