Ofwat greenlights £3.4bn in water bill rises
England's water companies to hike customer bills by an extra £3.4bn. Over a trillion litres of water lost to leaky pipes Sewage dumped in rivers No new reservoirs since 1989 Exec pay and dividend bonanza Over 1,200 criminal convictions Still allowed to trade Captive customers fleeced.
What the hell is #Ofwat for? Isn't it supposed to be on our side?
Why is Ofwat conniving in this outrageous robbery? The people who should pay for renewing the water infrastructure are the corporations who have owned our national resource since 1989 and milked it as a cash cow.
so what percentage goes to the shareholders and never gets used for the purpose it has been allowed?
It's not a privatised water service, it's a criminal racket.
Isn't enough, enough ! Just exactly what is our government (any government in recent living memory) doing to serve the public ? They certainly don't care about the utilities that we need to live ! Power, water, NHS.
Hang on they have already dividended out the money to pay for all this!
Londoners should not be forced to pay the price for Thames Water's failures. They deserve accountability, not higher bills. Unacceptable. www.standard.co.uk/news/environ...
There should not be a state sanctioned monopoly of something that is essential to life. Nationalise them.
Fergal Sharkey got it right. bsky.app/profile/38de...
Time to put it out of its misery and nationalise it already!
Well then, tell your PM to put his words into action, now that he's got the job. bsky.app/profile/andy...
Well, yes, politicians have been saying this for years, but nothing changes. The public deserve action not words. What exactly are Labour doing about it?
Ofwat is literally a corrupt joke regulator owned by the Water Companies. Andy Burnham with his massive majority could scrap them all in a single afternoon and stop pretending he can't control the Essential Services and the bills they charge.
We have the ridiculous charade that the Government pretends not to be in Charge of Energy Bills, Water Bills, Interest Rates, MPs wages, NHS Wages, Teachers Wages. Every blood thing, because an 'independent' regulator is in control. It needs to END.
I'm only the PM, actually I'm not in control of anything I will just say "That's bad they should stop." Ludicrous.
I don't hold my breath but this needs action not just a display of anger. This rip off will continue until the world ends, unless action is taken now.
Ofwat - water suppliers will be able to increase bills from next year (2027) until 2030, on top of the coming increases, already set out. This is motivated by the need to pay for much needed repairs to the water system. Do you get the feeling that you’re being treated like a Cunt?
The repairs that haven't been done for the last 40yrs since privatisation (while the 'profits' have been handed to shareholders) but WE are now expected to pay for. What have we been paying for exactly the last 40 years hmm? I'm fking fuming.
Why, no, Esh, I don't.... but I'm in Scotland.... our water was never privatised.
Aren't profits supposed to be determined AFTER all outgoings are calculated?
Yes I’m looking for some land with a natural water spring, I’ve got a feeling we’re going to be squeezed dry until nobody has any quality of life, except the billionaires.
From the outside looking in......what the fuck is wrong with you lot?
And this time they really mean it
If the government aren't going to renationalise water then they are literally the enemy of the people of the UK
This is so depressing. It seems this government is intent on running this country into the ground. For what reason, apart from making the rich, richer?
Or, to put it mor succintly, "the government are literally the enemy of the people of the UK."
Once again a regulator protecting profits, not the consumer they were set up to protect. How many brown envelopes did this take? Re-nationalise the water industry is a must.
This is UNBELIEVABLE!!😡 The water companies are responsible for this current predicament. Lack of investment in updating key infrastructure. Failing to repair leaks. Failing to build reservoirs & storage. All they’ve done is pile on debt & award the bosses pay rises! www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
So, it appears perfectly legitimate to be given a monopoly, spend years doing no development, repairs or quality reinforcement, whilst borrowing money to be repaid out of your monopoly profits. Then, once it all becomes properly enshittified, You can simply increase charges to fix? F.F.S!
OFWAT are a joke. They don’t have the interests of consumers at heart. Allowing the greedy water companies to pay bonuses, dividends to shareholders - no new reservoirs no fixing the leaks which lose much more than the sticking plaster of hosepipe bans. We can’t continue to fund their profligacy.
& there we have it probably politely they mention customers first but it's really about them sodding data centres🤬
WTAF! They are already fleecing us with price rises this year!! Not like we can even wash our cars or water our gardens and we are expected to bathe in the shit they pump into rivers and seas!! 🤬🤬 #Fewmin www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
We got our substantial increase last year with Severn Trent, another one that paid out huge dividends and bonuses and then left with nothing to reinvest.
Never mind giving away the money they should have been investing as profits. "Privatisation will create competition....."
Gotta make sure CEO's and shareholders get their money
