Willson Contreras exits after being hit in the head by a pitch

Boston Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras was removed from Friday's game at Dodger Stadium after being hit on the head by a pitch and exited the contest. Contreras had been batting fourth in Boston's lineup, hitting behind Wilyer Abreu, and serving as the club's primary first baseman. Through 101 games this season he is hitting .289 with 23 home runs, 67 RBI, 55 runs scored and a .945 OPS in 350 at-bats, with 46 walks and 104 strikeouts. Fantasy managers and the club will monitor his status closely, since any absence would open opportunities at first base. Think about everything Willson Contreras has gone through this season, the swings of emotion, and he’s got a guy with a .589 OPS showing him up for not tagging on a shallow fly ball? Tracy is players-first manager and that has obviously worked. But don’t make excuses. Say it’s not acceptable.

Did Duran actually think Contreras could score on his shallow fly ball? I don’t think anyone could’ve scored on that. I was wondering why he was so angry in the deck out. He needs to be called out. He plays good defense, but unfortunately he’s usually an automatic out.

Calling that pop-up a "shallow fly ball" is being generous. Contreras would've been out by 20 feet. Duran himself wouldn't have scored on that ball.
