Trump announces steep tariffs on imported generic drugs
The US president said some of the most widely used drugs in the country would face tariffs of 100% from August 2028, rising to 200% a year later as part of his latest effort to move manufacturing to America. ft.trib.al/qAfPnYW
People voted for this stupidity. Every single Republican supports it by their silence.
I’m sure they’ll get the US factories built and up and running long before anyone needs a refill.
But I thought Trump said he would lower drug prices by 600%!
Although few may care in this brave new world, my US citizen parents depend on generics and have fixed incomes, so this alarms me greatly. My grandmother also was permanently disabled from skipping some of her heart drug doses.
Only 20% of generics prescribed in the US are made here and over 80% of those depend on imported ingredients. So, Republicans are ok with doubling the price of drugs taken by their most reliable voters, seniors with limited incomes. Like 95% of his childish, impulsive edicts, ain’t happening.
Even if more manufacturing of generic drugs migrates to the US, the odds that those generic drugs manufactured in the US will be as inexpensive as the current drugs is, at best, negligible. US consumers of generic drugs will thus almost certainly pay higher costs for the very same generic drugs.
So, Republicans are going to make prescriptions more expensive for everyone in the short term so Trump can surely get a piece of this scam on the back end. Governance!
Where’s the dirtbag leftists posting that scribble faced picture going “healthcare pls”?
It's deeply enraging how easily all of this was avoided and how many people insisted that nothing would change by voting stupidly (or not voting).
Christ alive, we're on the fast track to a closed, East German economy.
Is he, like, trying to thin out the population?
we've all been saying that drug companies just don't make enough money
This is absolutely what the people want — more expensive drugs right before midterms
Welp, time for another Costco run
We don't even have a government. We're on our own.
Midterm voters need to know about this.
Who do you suppose will be hurt by a 100% tariff on generic drugs?
The political response should be "everyone" because without generic drugs at the lowest possible price, everyone's medicine prices could go up. No one should wait for a study to go through all the exact predicted ramifications. Just yell about it. Trump's raising your drug prices.
The next Dem President is going to receive an economic stimulus just by removing all the stupid tariffs on our closest trading partners.
And Medicare will pay more. Such stupidity.
Coming up on #KTLA: President Trump says that if the world's generic drug manufacturers don't open U.S. production facilities, he'll potentially *triple* the cost of the meds with tariffs. 90% of prescription drugs taken by Americans are generics
Oh, ugg!! The "like" is for your informative reporting, not this nonsense he's attempting!!!
So what friend or donor suggested the Donald say that I wonder
Does he really think banning generic drugs because pharma companies won’t relocate their business to America is doing what’s best for his constituents? Millions of Americans need generics drugs to survive. Is he really willing to sacrifice these people?
According to a Trump TS post… "Effective August 1st, 2026, all Generic Drugs being brought into the US will continue to have a tariff of 0% for a two year period of time, after which the tariff will be raised to 100% for a one year period of time, and 200% thereafter.”
Hopefully, this will be struck down in court long before it can take effect. He's been told by countless judges that his tariffs are illegal. His TS posts are all bluster for his perceived court of public opinion.
The only bright spot is in two years he’s almost out the door…one way or another.
Thanks for increasing drug prices. Good think I'm not an any! May you be voted out before I need one!
So we’ll be paying triple for our meds thanks to Trump, did I get that right?
Putting a tariff on Medicines? What an c*nt!
What the hell? This is the first I heard about this
