Spain beat Argentina 1-0, Trump booed during trophy presentation

Spain beat Argentina 1-0 after Ferran Torres scored in extra time to win the 2026 World Cup. United States President Donald Trump watched the match from a suite at MetLife Stadium alongside FIFA president Gianni Infantino and was loudly booed by fans when he walked onto the field for the trophy ceremony; the jeers were audible on television and even stronger in the stadium. Trump helped Infantino award medals to Argentine and Spanish players while Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stood to his left and also shook hands with players. Trump and Infantino jointly carried the trophy to Spain captain Rodri, and after handing it off Infantino tried to usher Trump out of the picture but Trump lingered on the podium and stood beside Spain’s players as Rodri lifted the trophy. The ceremony echoed a similar episode at last summer’s Club World Cup, and comes after Trump did not appear at any 2026 World Cup games prior to the final while most U.S. matches were held on the west coast.

Beyond pathetic. Trump wouldn’t leave the podium during Spain’s World Cup trophy celebration until FIFA President Gianni Infantino pulled him away.
