Red Sox win 11th straight, reach .500 after doubleheader sweep

The Boston Red Sox completed a doubleheader sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays, beating them 10-0 in Friday’s opener and 5-3 in the nightcap to extend their winning streak to 11 games and move to 48-48. Wilyer Abreu homered twice in the nightcap, including a two-run shot that put Boston ahead; his second longball was his 13th of the season and his sixth career multi-homer game. All-Star Willson Contreras, back from a five-game suspension, homered in his first game back for his 21st of the year, and the two homers came back-to-back in the first inning after Tampa Bay had taken a 2-0 lead. Tampa Bay’s Junior Caminero hit his AL-leading 29th home run and Johnny DeLuca added a two-run single, while Rays starter Mason Englert (0-3) allowed five runs in five innings. Greg Weissert (2-2) was one of six Red Sox relievers who combined for 6 and 2/3 scoreless innings, and All-Star closer Aroldis Chapman recorded a perfect ninth for his 20th save. The 11-game streak is Boston’s longest since September 15-25, 2016, and Boston will face Tampa Bay Saturday with Ian Seymour (6-2, 4.59 ERA) expected to start for the Rays against Boston left-hander Patrick Sandoval (0-0, 2.08).

They are scoring some runs now but I not sure looking to win every game 2-1 was Breslows plan. Surely not without Crochet. But, Durbin might be ok. Seigler is a keeper and Tolle, Early and Bennett are three of the best young arms in baseball. So, plan or no plan, eleven in a row is impressive.
