Sean Carrington, a 36-year-old roofer from Wigan, paid £550 for a foot-long tattoo on his leg reading "England World Cup Winner 2026" and said he will add the words "only joking" if England lose. Carrington said he became convinced of victory after Thomas Tuchel's side beat DR Congo 2-1 in the round of 32 and first decided to get the tattoo while watching the tournament on holiday in Tenerife. Holy Trinity Tattoo Studio in Standish fitted him in before England's quarter-final with Norway; manager Jamie Taylor said he warned Carrington the ink was permanent but that Carrington was adamant and lively in the studio. The tattoo brings Carrington's total to nine, most of which are family names. The studio's social media showed mixed reactions, with one commenter calling it "possibly the worst tattoo I've ever seen" and another saying it will be a story if England falter. Carrington plans to watch England's next match at Manchester's Depot Mayfield fanzone.
