Sean Carrington, a 36-year-old roofer from Wigan, paid £550 for a foot-long tattoo reading "England World Cup Winner 2026" on his leg. Carrington said he had been sure of victory since "Thomas Tuchel's men" beat DR Congo 2-1 in the round of 32 and vowed to add the words "only joking" to the tattoo if England lose. He got the tattoo at Holy Trinity Tattoo Studio in Standish after friends egged him on while watching the tournament in Tenerife; the shop squeezed him in before England's quarter final with Norway. Holy Trinity manager Jamie Taylor warned the mark is permanent but said Carrington was "the life and soul of the studio" the day of the tattoo. Carrington has nine tattoos in total, mostly family names, and plans to watch the next match at Manchester's Depot Mayfield fanzone. The studio's social accounts showed mixed reactions, with comments calling it possibly the worst tattoo some had seen and others saying it will be a story if England lose.
