A 28-year-old man running from an encounter with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security Investigations agents at a Wawa gas station in St. Augustine, Florida, was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer shortly before 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Dylan Bryan said. The man was one of four occupants of a vehicle that had stopped in the station parking lot; preliminary information says four people ran off and one ran across State Road 16 and was hit by the truck. Authorities described the incident as occurring during an encounter between HSI and ICE agents, and officials said details about what exactly happened at the gas station remained unclear. Local and national outlets noted this death as the third person to die in an incident involving ICE agents in about a week.
